Mr. Nachumi Hertzion sheyichyeh
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 13th of Tishrei, in which you outline your acquaintance with Chabad members and their movement, and that you were recently chosen to fill the role of guide for a youth group, etc. Even though you correctly wrote about the responsibility involved in this matter, at the same time we have been assured—'one who comes to purify' (and it is known the precision of Admor HaZaken, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch—this year marks one hundred and fifty years since his passing—[that one who comes] to purify others as well)—is assisted. Recognizing the responsibility of the role is one of the main conditions required in a shaliach and one chosen to fulfill such a position.
But most importantly, a guide for Bnei Yisrael—each one being a child of the King of kings, Hakadosh Baruch Hu—must decide to be, in the style of our Sages, 'one who pats in order to moisten,' meaning: a living example of a Jew who hopes and lives according to the directives of our Torah, the Torah of life, fulfilling its mitzvos about which it is said 'and you shall live by them,' specifically with joy and gladness of heart and with enthusiasm. This is the channel and vessel for receiving our Father's blessing from Heaven for success in fulfilling this role—to overcome obstacles and concealments even if they arise.
And 'Ve'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha' ('Love your fellow as yourself') is a great principle in Torah and fundamental. If fulfilling this mitzvah results in striving for your fellow's physical good, how much more so regarding their soul's good—which is also their physical good as is evident and observable.
According to what you wrote about your acquaintance with Chabad members, you have surely seen several examples of overcoming obstacles and difficulties that at first glance seem very great and strong.
We have just entered a new year—a renewal of strength for Jewish men and women; a renewal of goodness and holiness.
Blessings for good news in all mentioned above.
Due to the sanctity of the festival, His Honor the Rebbe shlita did not come [to sign] personally; I am signing on his behalf. The secretary: Nachumi Hertzion: Nir-Eli.
Summary
This letter teaches that true leadership means living as an inspiring example—joyfully embodying Torah values—and that G‑d grants help to those who take responsibility for guiding others with care for both their spiritual and physical well-being.
