Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from the 20th of Sivan, in which you write about the health condition of your son... may he live and be well, and the doctors' opinions on this matter. Based on the style of your writing, even though it is not explicitly stated, it appears that all the doctors currently see no reason for any serious treatments (such as surgery G‑d forbid or similar procedures—even not exploratory surgery), which is understandable given your son's young age.

Since there is no practical difference at this time, according to the perspective of our Torah of life, a person must be strong in trust in Hashem—the Healer of all flesh Who works wonders—that the situation will continue to improve. However, in my opinion it is worthwhile to prompt the doctors: if it turns out that the cause is that one bronchial tube has a narrower cavity than usual, then there is a mechanical solution and remedy with no risk of lack of benefit G‑d forbid—only benefit. This involves performing movements related to breathing and neck muscles at a somewhat faster and stronger pace; as with all limbs—when they are trained for their function, this itself strengthens and develops them—and so too here. It is especially emphasized above that then all concerns are nullified.

The precise method for these movements should be decided by the doctor—whether by machine or by hand etc.—and perhaps it is appropriate to consult with nurses who specialize in physical exercise.

It is also proper to have his tefillin checked—if this has not been done within the past twelve months—and his wife should maintain the good custom of Jewish women to give charity before lighting candles every Friday afternoon and before every festival eve.

It would also be good to clarify whether there was any offense caused during their match-making process toward another Jew or Jewess that according to halachah would require requesting forgiveness.

Since everything happens by Divine Providence, I feel obligated (and privileged) to encourage you regarding the necessity of establishing set times for studying the inner dimension of Torah—which in our generation has been revealed through Chassidus—establishing daily study times and increasing on Shabbos which is holy to Hashem.

With blessing for good news in all the above.

Summary

The Rebbe guides parents facing a child's health challenge to trust deeply in Hashem while following medical advice. He suggests practical actions—mechanical exercises if needed—and spiritual practices like checking tefillin, giving charity before candle lighting, and regular study of Chassidus.
