Haraha"g vavac"h iy"a nu"n etc. Yitzchak Yehuda Shtern

Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh, in which you write about the proposal that I should make a change, etc. It is clear according to the ruling of our Sages (Shabbos 10b): "A person should never change..."—that even as a mere suggestion there should not be such a proposal. This teaching is brought as halachic ruling in Rambam, etc. The magnitude of the consequences from making a change is understood from the words of Tosafos there (especially according to the Shelah, etc.). In the incident from which we learn not to change, there were very strong reasons for making a change—as our Sages say on the verse "ki ben zekunim hu lo" (for he was a child of his old age), and on "eleh toldos Yaakov Yosef" (these are the generations of Yaakov: Yosef) specifically—and this was before the aforementioned commandment of our Sages; yet even so, etc., and all the more so after the commandment.

Furthermore—and this is essential—that all (his friends) are beloved, all etc. Also see Sefer Tanya Kadisha at the beginning of chapter 32 that they are all aligned, etc. I ask your forgiveness for not accepting the proposal.

As I reflect and search for the reason for writing—even though it is simple as stated—behold: none of us knows fully; perhaps this is an opportunity for me to repeat what my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, emphasized and repeated at every opportunity: about the great necessity to set fixed times for studying Pnimiyus HaTorah which in our generation has been revealed in Toras HaChassidus—especially in these last days of our doubled and redoubled exile darkness—when it is most crucial to spread forth the wellsprings outward; then will come Mar Da Malka Meshicha (the Master—King Moshiach), as is known from the holy letter of the Baal Shem Tov on this matter. Surely for your honor such elaboration is unnecessary.

With honor and blessing.

Regarding Yosef's superiority over his brothers: it is worth noting what Rabbeinu HaZaken says on this: And these are his holy words: "There [regarding other tribes] it says 'the tribes went up,' but regarding Yosef it says 'and Yosef was brought down,' etc.—this means they did not recognize him at all since there was no comparison between them at all; what was an ascent for them was a descent for him," etc. (Torah Or additions to Parshas Vayechi beginning with 'LeHavin Shoresh.' See there).

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that one should avoid changing established practices without strong halachic basis and underscores setting fixed times for learning Chassidus as essential preparation for redemption. True spiritual growth comes through unity and deep Torah study.
