Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter: At an auspicious time, you and your children will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory, in accordance with the content of your letter—especially for raising your children in Torah, marriage, and good deeds.
Regarding your question about your son's Bar Mitzvah—who will turn thirteen in Tammuz for a long and good life and is an orphan from his father: According to our custom, we do not differentiate; one begins putting on tefillin two months before his Bar Mitzvah day, and the celebration is held on his birthday.
Certainly you observe the good custom of Jewish daughters to give charity every time before lighting candles on Erev Shabbos and Erev Yom Tov. It would also be appropriate to have the mezuzos in your home checked to ensure they are all kosher according to halachah. Additionally, strive to accustom your son to say each day after davening in the morning a chapter of Tehillim according to his age (beginning from Bar Mitzvah with chapter 14; the next year chapter 15, etc.).
With blessings for good news, in the name of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita—secretary.
Summary
The Rebbe guides that Bar Mitzvah boys begin tefillin two months prior and celebrate on their birthday regardless of circumstances. He stresses maintaining mitzvos like charity before candle lighting, checking mezuzos, and daily Tehillim as spiritual foundations for growth.
