ע"י הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מו"ה ראובן צבי יהודה שי' פייגעלשטאק נודע לי ממצב רוחו, ואשר אומר שקשה לו לקבל תנחומין.
והנה פשיטא על פי אמונה ואפילו על פי שכל, שהנפש הנצחית היא ובפרט נפשו של בן ישראל שהיא חלק אלקה ממעל ממש, מזה מובן גם כן אשר תמיד הנשמה משתוקקת לעלי' ובזמן היותה בגוף גשמי בעולם הזה הרי זה בידה על ידי עשייתה עניני תורה ומצות, מה שאין כן בעלותה מן הגוף, שאז על אלו הרוצים טובתה לעשות לזכות הנשמה על ידי שיוסיפו הם בעניני תורה ומצות לזכותה, ובכדי שיהי' לימוד התורה בסדר וכן קיום המצות, צריכים הם להיות דוקא בשמחה ובטוב לבב, על שזוכים למלאות רצון נותן התורה ועל שזוכים לעשות לעילוי הנשמה, ובאם נמצאים בעצבות אפילו רק במרירות, הרי זה היפך הכוונה, ונגרע על ידי זה מטיב הלימוד וקיום המצוה, ובמילא נגרע גם כן בעליית הנשמה, וכיון שהמדובר בבן יחיד, פשיטא אשר עליו לעשות כפי היכולת לעילוי נשמתו, בהיותו חזק באמונתו, אשר הנשמה חי' וקיימת, ויכול לעשות גדולות לזכותה, וצריך להיות שמח על יכולת זו, והעצבות ח"ו ואפילו המרירות כנ"ל, הרי זה מוכיח על חלישות האמונה ח"ו בהשארת הנפש וכו'.
והשם יתברך יחזק לבו ומוחו להבין הענינים לאמיתתם ולעבוד את ה' בשמחה ובטוב לבב, והוא וזוגתו שי' יגדלו את בתם שתליט"א לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך בריאות הנכונה.
מהנכון הי' לשכור מי שהוא שיאמר קדיש לע"נ בנו ע"ה, אבל לא שהוא יאמר הקדיש, והוא יפריש בכל יום חול בבקר איזה פרוטות לצדקה לע"נ הבן, וכן יבדקו את המזוזות בדירתו, שכנראה איזה מהן אינן כשרות.

Through Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n engaged in tzt"z Mohe Reuven Tzvi Yehudah Feigelstock, I have learned of your state of mind and that you say it is difficult for you to accept comfort.
It is obvious—both according to faith and even reason—that the soul is eternal, especially the soul of a Jewish son which is literally a part of G‑d above. From this it is also understood that the soul always yearns for elevation. While in a physical body in this world, it can achieve this through Torah study and mitzvah observance. However, after its ascent from the body, those who wish for its good must act to merit the soul by increasing Torah and mitzvos in its merit.
In order for Torah study and mitzvah observance to be proper and orderly, they must be done specifically with joy and gladness of heart—rejoicing in fulfilling the will of the Giver of the Torah and in being able to elevate the soul. If one is found in sadness—even just bitterness—it is contrary to the intent and detracts from both the quality of learning and mitzvah observance; consequently, it also diminishes the elevation of the soul.
Since we are speaking about an only son, it is clear that you must do everything possible for his soul’s elevation, remaining strong in your faith that the soul lives on and endures. You can accomplish great things for his merit, and you should rejoice in this ability. Sadness or even bitterness (as above) indicates a weakness of faith—G‑d forbid—in the survival of the soul.
May Hashem strengthen your heart and mind to understand these matters truthfully and to serve Hashem with joy and gladness of heart. May you and your wife raise your daughter (may she live long) to Torah, marriage, and good deeds with proper health.
It would be appropriate to hire someone to recite Kaddish for your son (of blessed memory), but not for you yourself to say Kaddish. You should set aside some coins each weekday morning for charity in your son's merit. Also, have your mezuzos at home checked—as apparently some may not be kosher.
