מאשר הנני בתודה רבה קבלת מכתבו מכ"ד תמוז עם המצורף אליו, ואשתדל בכיוון אודותיו דברנו בביקורו כאן.
במה שכותב בסיום מכתבו בהנוגע לספינות, אשר אמרו לו שנתקלו בקשויים גדולים, מובן עד כמה שמצער מצב כזה, שהרי המדובר הוא בשטח מצוה עלי' הודיעו רז"ל ששקולה היא כנגד כל המצוות, ולא עוד אלא שהוסיפו והודיעו שאלמלא שמרו ישראל שבת אחת מיד בן דוד בא, ואף על פי כן אין כל הזזה בדבר וכל' המורגל עוברים לסדר היום. ובשלמא אלו שאין רצונם בביאת בן דוד, אין מקשין עליהם, כיון שבדלא בדכוותייהו עסקינן, אבל כל המתאבל על החורבן והגלות וכוסף וצמא לגאולה ובנין, הרי כדאית לו כל ההשתדלות והיגיעה אפילו בשביל צעד אחד ופעולה אחת להקל הגלות ולהחיש הגאולה.
ויהי רצון שכיון שנכנסנו לימי הנחמה, וכל' רז"ל נחמה בכפליים, כפליים נגד כל העגמ"נ והצער ל"ע בעבר, נזכה לראות בנחמת ציון וירושלים על ידי משיח צדקנו בעגלא דידן ובזמן קריב.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I hereby gratefully acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 24th of Tammuz with its enclosure, and I will make efforts regarding what we discussed during your visit here.
Regarding what you write at the end of your letter about the ships, that you were told they encountered great difficulties—it is clear how distressing such a situation is, since this concerns an area of mitzvah about which our Sages said it is equal to all the mitzvot. Moreover, they added that if Israel would keep one Shabbat immediately the son of David would come. Nevertheless, there is no movement in this matter and as is commonly said, people just move on with their routine.
If it were those who do not desire the coming of the son of David, we would not question them since we are not dealing with their kind. But anyone who mourns over the destruction and exile and yearns and thirsts for redemption and rebuilding—their every effort and toil is worthwhile even for a single step or action to ease the exile and hasten redemption.
May it be G‑d's will that since we have entered the days of consolation—and as our Sages say: consolation doubled, doubled in proportion to all past anguish and pain—we should merit to see the consolation of Zion and Jerusalem through our righteous Mashiach speedily in our days.
