במענה על מכתבה בו כותבת ע"ד מצב בנה... שליט"א.
בעת רצון אזכירו על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להטבת מצבו ולהסתדרות טובה בקרוב.
כיון שמצב רוחו נגרם על ידי המאורע של אחיו הצעיר ע"ה, צריך הי' להסבירו שעל ידי שיתעסק בענינים המביאים תועלת לילדי בני ישראל על ידי זה יגרום נחת רוח לנשמת אחיו, ורק על ידי זה, ולא על ידי התבודדות וכו'. והרי כל בני ישראל, ובכלל כל אנשי דת, מאמינים בהשארת הנפש, זאת אומרת שהנפש נצחיית היא וקיימת תמיד ומחכה אשר אלה המתענינים באושרה יעשו מה לטובתה ולעלית הנשמה על ידי פעולות טובות לתועלת בני ישראל. וכמובן אשר במצב של התבודדות אי אפשר לו לעשות בשבילה כלום, כי אם על ידי היותו פעיל מתאים לכשרונותיו ויכלתו.
מובן שיכולה להראות מכתבי זה לבנה, ויהי רצון שישמע להוראתי זו, ויחפש ואז גם ימצא משרה ועבודה, שעי"ז יביא תועלת ובמילא גם יגרום נחת רוח לנשמת האח.
מהראוי שיבדקו המזוזות בביתה, ושגם התפילין של בנה יובדקו.

In response to your letter in which you write about the situation of your son... may he live and be well.
At an auspicious time I will mention him at the resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory, for an improvement in his condition and for a good resolution soon.
Since his mood was caused by the event concerning his younger brother of blessed memory, it should be explained to him that by engaging in matters that benefit Jewish children he will bring satisfaction to his brother's soul—and only through this, not through isolation or similar behaviors.
Indeed, all Jews—and in general all religious people—believe in the immortality of the soul; that is, the soul is eternal and always exists and awaits those who care about its happiness to do what is good for it and for its elevation through good deeds benefiting Jewish people.
It is clear that in a state of isolation he cannot do anything for the soul; only by being active according to his talents and abilities can he help.
You may show this letter to your son. May it be G‑d's will that he listen to this guidance, seek out—and then also find—a position and work. Through this he will bring benefit and thus also satisfaction to his brother's soul.
It is appropriate that the mezuzos in your home be checked, as well as your son's tefillin.
