Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from before Pesach: It is clear, as explained in several places, that self-assessment where one writes that he has accomplished nothing and sees no fruits, etc., comes from an impure source. As brought from the examination of my revered father-in-law (the Rebbe Maharash), quoted in Hayom Yom: if this self-accounting disturbs one’s activity, then the evil inclination is involved. From your letter it seems that all this analysis has led to a lowering of spirit and consequently a weakening in your activities.
I have already written to several of Anash that it is known in our Torah—even in the revealed part—regarding the removal of physical chametz: a person must search for it and if he finds it, he must destroy it. But even if with his own abilities he does not find any and thus has nothing to burn, he has still fulfilled his obligation properly since he did what was required of him; the Torah was not given to angels.
Therefore, even if your claims were correct, you have still performed the mitzvah properly—such as the mitzvah of rebuke and even more so the mitzvah of loving your fellow as yourself—and you must strive to improve. Since it is almost certain you are mistaken in your self-assessment (as above), and as it is said: one positive action is better than a thousand sighs, you should therefore continue your activities in your environment. Since you are fulfilling a mission from Above—from Whom nothing is withheld—eventually these actions will yield the desired results…
Regarding what you write about transferring assets as required by administrators: It seems this is also customary in the United States—that those who come to live in such institutions and have no son or daughter are required that after 120 years their assets pass to the institution. Surely their demand does not prevent giving gifts during one's lifetime for long life and good years.
Certainly let me know how you utilized the days of Pesach—the time of our freedom—and may it be G‑d’s will that this be a good preparation for Shavuos as written: "BeHotzi'acha Et HaAm MiMitzrayim Ta'avdun Et HaElokim Al HaHar HaZeh" (When you bring out the people from Egypt you will serve G‑d on this mountain).
Blessings for good news.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that discouragement over perceived lack of accomplishment often comes from an impure source. Fulfilling one’s obligations sincerely is what matters; even when results are not visible, every positive action counts and ultimately brings blessing.
