Financial Struggles, Shabbos Observance, and Steps for Improvement

The Rebbe writes that the recipient's financial difficulties are linked to past violations of Shabbos for work. He encourages sincere teshuvah, finding permissible employment, checking tefillin and mezuzos, daily charity, and reciting Tehillim to merit improvement.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter in which you write some details from your life's story and conclude with a complaint about your difficulty in managing financially and wonder about this. Even though the reason is also understood from your letter—since in previous years you established your livelihood in a manner contrary to Shabbos observance—and it is already explained in holy books that through this (forbidden work on Shabbos), not only does it not increase livelihood but on the contrary, it harms one's livelihood.

But since the blessed and exalted Name said that teshuvah is effective and can repair even the past, you should firmly resolve to fulfill the mitzvos of our Torah of life and strive to find a place for livelihood and arrange everything in a permitted and kosher way according to Shulchan Aruch. Then there is great hope that over time things will improve—even if at first there may be difficulties—as it is already stated: "VeHayah Reishischa Mitz'ar VeAcharischa Yisge Me'od" (And your beginning will be small but your end will greatly flourish).

He should check his tefillin as well as the mezuzos in his home to ensure they are kosher according to halachah. Every weekday before morning prayers he should give some coins to charity. After morning prayers every day—including Shabbos and Yom Tov—he should say at least one chapter from Tehillim.

Blessings for a kosher and joyous Pesach.

In the name of the Rebbe shlita, Mazkir

Summary
