בנועם קבלתי הידיעה אשר בנו עמיאל שי' יכנס לעול מצוות ביום ה' פ' וירא, ומביע הנני בזה איחולי לו ולזוגתו שיחיו, אשר בנם שי' יכיר תמיד כי יום הב"מ שלו הרי הוא התחלת קבלתו עול תורה ועול מצוות, וילך מחיל אל חיל בלימוד התורה וקיום מצותי' בחיי היום-יום.
כיון שכ' בטח יעלה לתורה בש"ק פ' וירא הבע"ל, ויאמר ברוך שפטרני, הרי בפרשה זו המקור למשרז"ל (מד"ר פנ"ג, י) ע"ד הב"מ של יצחק אבינו, חגיגת הב"מ הראשונה ושיש בה הוראה לדורות, ככל ענין שבתורה מל' הוראה. וסיפרו רז"ל שבמשתה הב"מ של יצחק נוכחו גדולי האומות ועוג ביניהם, שהי' לועג לב"מ ולעתידם של ישראל, מיעוט קטן בקרב עמים רבים, ואמר לו הקב"ה חייך שאתה רואה אלף אלפים ורבוא רבבות יוצאים מבני בניו.
וכן היו תמיד כאלה שטענו וטוענים שדרך החיים על פי תורה יש בה כדי לחסל ולהתיש כוחם של ישראל וכו', והורו רז"ל אשר אדרבה דרך התורה היא דרך החיים והנצחיות, דרך ההצלחה הן ברוחניות והן בגשמיות.

With pleasure I received the news that your son Amiel will enter the obligation of mitzvos on Thursday, Parshas Vayeira. I hereby express my blessings to you and your wife that your son will always recognize that his Bar Mitzvah day is truly the beginning of his acceptance of the yoke of Torah and mitzvos, and may he go from strength to strength in Torah study and daily mitzvah observance.
Since you wrote that he will surely be called to the Torah on Shabbos Parshas Vayeira, G‑d willing, and will recite "Baruch Sheptarani," it is in this parsha that we find the source for our Sages' words (Midrash Rabbah 53:10) regarding Yitzchak Avinu's Bar Mitzvah—the first Bar Mitzvah celebration—which serves as a lesson for all generations, as every matter in Torah is a lesson.
Our Sages related that at Yitzchak's Bar Mitzvah feast, great leaders of the nations were present—including Og—who mocked the Bar Mitzvah and the future of Israel, a small minority among many nations. The Holy One said to him: "By your life! You will see thousands upon thousands and myriads upon myriads descend from his children." There have always been those who claimed—and still claim—that living according to Torah weakens or diminishes Israel's strength. But our Sages taught that on the contrary: The path of Torah is one of life and eternity—a path to success both spiritually and materially.
