במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב אודות מצב החינוך בישיבות ובישיבות קטנות וביחוד ע"ד תכנית הלימודים.
והנה כיוון לדעת הגדולים כי כבר צווחו קמאי על דא וכמובא בכו"כ ספרים זה כבר מאות בשנים, ומזמן לזמן הנני מעורר בעת התועדות והזדמנויות שונות על ההכרח הכי גדול בלימוד הלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומים בהכנסת מסכתות סדר מועד ומס' ברכות בסדרי לימוד הישיבות וכו', ויעוין בהקדמת בני רבנו הזקן להשו"ע שלו שמבואר שם סדרי לימוד מפורט, ואף שנראית הזזה בזמן האחרון, הנה מובן שאיננה מספיקה כלל וכלל, אבל בטח שאין זה צריך לפעול רגש של יאוש ח"ו וצריך לעורר ולכפול ולשלש בזה וידוע פסק רבוה"ק נשיאי ישראל שחזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם.
בודאי - אף שאינו מזכיר עד"ז - יש לו שיעורים בלימוד תורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות ושומר - או עכ"פ ישמור מכאן ולהבא - שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.
כבקשתו אזכיר את כל אלו שכותב אודותם במכתבו, על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר.
ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.

In response to your letter—without indication of when it was written—in which you write about the state of education in yeshivos and smaller yeshivos, especially regarding the curriculum.
You have aligned with the views of the greats, as this has already been cried out about by earlier authorities, as cited in numerous books for hundreds of years. From time to time I remind people at farbrengens and other occasions about the utmost necessity to study halachos needed for daily life by introducing tractates from Seder Moed and Maseches Berachos into the yeshiva curriculum, etc. See also the introduction by the sons of our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe to his Shulchan Aruch, where a detailed study order is explained. Even though there has been some improvement recently, it is clear that it is still far from sufficient. However, this should not lead to feelings of despair G‑d forbid; rather, one must continue to arouse, repeat, and triple these efforts. It is well known that our holy ancestors—the leaders of Israel—ruled that persistent advocacy does not return empty-handed.
Certainly—even though you do not mention it—you have regular study sessions in both Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus, and you keep—or at least will keep from now on—the three daily study portions established by my revered father-in-law the Rebbe zatzal: Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya.
As you requested, I will mention all those you wrote about in your letter at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law the Rebbe.
As we approach the new year coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I hereby express my blessing to you and all yours: may you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year both materially and spiritually.
