זה מזמן שלא הגיעוני ממנו כל ידיעות הן בעניניו הפרטים וכן בעסקנותו הצבורית, ויה"ר שיהי' זה סימן שהכל בסדר ובשלום.
בודאי ידוע לו מנהגנו אשר בקשר עם ימי גאולת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, גאולתו ממאסרו על עבודתו במסירת נפש להחזקת התורה ומצותי'.
אשר בשעתה היתה נצחון למופת על כחות המנגדים לד' ולתורתו וגם לשנים ולדורות שלאחר זה משמשת הוראה ברורה, אשר התורה שולטת על המציאות אף אם אפילו אין מוצאים מקום לזה בשכל האנושי.
הנה מו"ל במיוחד לימים אלו ספר או חוברת מענינא דיומא, שבהם עניני התעוררות בזה.
ומוסגר כאן החוברת שהו"ל בשנה זו, חלק מרשימות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אודות מאסרו. ובהוספה - דברי נשיא ישראל מיוסדים על הנקודה, אשר בעניני תורה ומצות, כל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל בן חורין הוא ואין עליו אלא ה' אלקיו.
ואם זקוקים לזכרון ולהתעוררות בזה - בהנוגע לגלות אצל אינם-יהודים וגזירותיהם הם שאין להם בחירה, ואינם אלא כגרזן ביד החוצב בו,[2] על אחת כמה וכמה שמוכרחים להתעוררות זו בהנוגע לגלות אצל יהודים, אשר בחירה חפשית להם, וכמ"ש ראה נתתי לפניך היום את החיים ואת הטוב וגו' ובחרת בחיים. ואף שבקשת הקב"ה (שהיא גם עזר וסיוע) הוא - ובחרת בחיים, הרי כמו שמודגש בזה הענין דבחיים - כך מודגש ג"כ שיהי' ובחרת.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
It has been a while since I have received any news from you, both regarding your personal matters and your communal activities. May it be G‑d’s will that this is a sign that all is well and in peace.
You surely know our custom that in connection with the days of redemption of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory—his release from imprisonment for his self-sacrifice in upholding Torah and its mitzvos—which at the time was a manifest victory over those forces opposing Hashem and His Torah, and for years and generations after serves as a clear lesson: that Torah rules over reality even if human intellect cannot find room for it.
Therefore, especially for these days, a book or booklet relevant to the theme of the time is published containing matters to inspire in this regard. Enclosed here is the booklet published this year—a portion of my revered father-in-law’s notes about his imprisonment. Additionally included are words from the Nasi Yisrael based on the point that regarding Torah and mitzvos, every Jew is truly free and has upon him only Hashem his G‑d.
If one needs a reminder and awakening about this—regarding exile among non-Jews and their decrees (who have no real choice but are merely like an axe in the hand of its wielder)—then how much more so must we be awakened regarding exile among Jews themselves, who do have free choice. As it is written: "Re'eh natati lefanecha hayom et hachayim ve'et hatov... u'vacharta bachayim" (See, I have set before you today life and good... and you shall choose life). And although Hashem requests (and also assists) us—u'vacharta bachayim (choose life)—just as it emphasizes 'in life,' so too does it emphasize 'and you shall choose.'

Summary
The Rebbe writes that his redemption demonstrates how Torah prevails over all opposition. Every Jew has true freedom to choose good and serve Hashem; even when challenged by others—Jew or non-Jew—we must remember our power to choose life through Torah and mitzvos.
