Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter before Shavuos, in which you write that you grew up among Chassidim and that Hashem has granted you the merit and success to recognize intellectually the necessity of knowing Hashem, etc., and you ask for guidance on how to proceed in studying Chassidus, in prayer, etc., and what preparation is required, etc.
It is understood that the manner of study—and especially service of the heart—is not identical for every soul, even though everyone is obligated in them since they are mitzvos of Hashem and among the constant mitzvos at all times and in all places. As explained in the introduction to Sefer HaChinuch, the manner of study and service depends on one's soul traits and abilities. Therefore, it is best that you meet with elder Anash in your area—especially with the mashpia of Chassidus—and consult with them. May Hashem grant them the right idea so that even the manner will be good for you in all details.
However, one fundamental preparation is required for everyone: just as it is understood and obvious that accepting the Torah as a whole is only possible by first saying 'Naaseh v'Nishma' ('We will do and we will hear'), as explained in the sugya about accepting the Torah (Shabbos 86 onward), and furthermore 'Anan d'Saginan b'Shleimusa ksiv ben tumas yesharim tanchem...' (there it says at end of 88a), so too it applies to every part of Torah—and especially to learning Pnimiyus HaTorah which is called in Zohar HaKadosh 'Nishmasa d'Oraisa' (the soul of Torah)—since a person's evil inclination fights against this learning with extra force. See Kuntres Etz HaChaim by my revered father-in-law (the Rebbe Rashab) of blessed memory. On the other hand—every person has been given the ability and strength to overcome it. And Hashem helps him—especially in our orphaned generation—where it is an absolute mitzvah and necessity to learn this part of Torah and publicize it. May Hashem grant you success in all the above.
Certainly there is no need to remind you about care regarding immersion according to Ezra's ordinance, and to keep the three daily study sessions established by my revered father-in-law—the Rebbe—of blessed memory: Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya as known.
Blessings,
In the name of my revered father-in-law Shlita,
Secretary
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while each person's spiritual path is unique, everyone must approach Torah study—especially Chassidus—with wholehearted commitment. Consulting mentors helps tailor one's growth; steadfastness in daily learning and purity strengthens spiritual progress.
