במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - וכבר כתבתי לכמה מאנ"ש, ואמרתי לו ביחוד כמה פעמים אשר הגשמיות והרוחניות יחד יהלכו בעולם בכלל, ובהנוגע לאיש ואשה הישראלים בפרט, וכשמבקשים הצלחה בגשמיות וברכה בזה מוכרח להגדיל הצנור והכלים הרוחנים להמשכת הענינים מלמעלה, והם הם עניני תורה ומצות כמובן, ולמרות כל דברי ההתעוררות הרי הם נשארים בדבור בע"פ וגם במכתבו משתמט מלהזכיר אף מלה אחת בהנוגע לתכלית בריאת האדם שהוא כהוראת המשנה סוף קדושין אני נבראתי לשמש את קוני.
ובטח גם בעיניו פשוט שלא בשביל עניני מסחר או סרסרות והדומה, ירדה הנשמה מאיגרא רמה לבירא עמיקתא, וכוונתי כפשוטה ללמוד בכל יום ויום ממש שיעור בנגלה ושיעור בחסידות, נוסף על שלשת השיעורים בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, און מיט א שמייכעל און שווייגען טוט מען גארניט אויף...

In response to your letter—without indication of when it was written—I have already written to several of Anash, and I have told you personally several times that material and spiritual matters go together in the world in general, and especially regarding Jewish men and women. When one seeks success and blessing in material matters, it is necessary to increase the spiritual channel and vessels through which these matters are drawn from Above; these are Torah and mitzvos, as is obvious.
Despite all words of inspiration, they often remain only spoken or written words. Even in your letter you avoid mentioning even a single word regarding the ultimate purpose of man's creation—as taught at the end of Kiddushin: Ani nivra'ti leshamesh es koni ("I was created to serve my Creator"). Surely you also understand that the soul did not descend from a lofty height to a deep pit for matters of business or brokerage or the like.
And my intention is simple: to actually learn every single day a lesson in Nigleh (revealed Torah) and a lesson in Chassidus, in addition to the three well-known daily lessons in Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya. And with just a smile and silence nothing is accomplished at all...
