און אזוי ווי יעדער לעבעדיגע זאך, וועט אויך אייער אינטערעס וואקסען, וכלשון רבותינו ז"ל מעלין בקדש, און בפרט, ווען מיר געפינען זיך אין די חנוכה טעג, וואס די גזירה איז געווען וואס מען האט געוואלט להשכיחם תורתך ולהעבירם מחוקי רצונך, דארפמען לויטן ווארט פון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, וואס ער האט געזאגט אין נאמען פון זיינע עלטערן הק', "אז מען דארף זיך צוהערען צו דעם וואס די חנוכה ליכטלעך דערציילן", און אויסניצען דאס אין עבודת השם, אז סוף כל סוף איז די אידען מיט זייער מסירת נפש האבען מנצח געווען, וטהרו את מקדשך והדליקו נרות בחצרות קדשך, און מען האט אונז געהייסען דאס טאן, צו צינדען ליכטלעך, אין די חנוכה טעג, און אין אזא אופן אז עס זאל מיין מוסיף והולך, דאס הייטס אז יעדער נאכט זאל צוקומען מער ליכטיקייט, וואס דאס איז א הוראה כללית אויף דער הנהגה פון א אידען אין די ענינים פון תורה ומצות, אז מען דארף מאכען ליכטיג אפילו ביינאכט און ניט נאר אין הויז אינווייניג נאר אויך ווי בלשון הגמרא על פתח ביתו מבחוץ, ומדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה אז ער מאכט ליכטיג בא יעדערן אין הויז בבני חיי ומזוני רוויחא.

With pleasure I have received, through Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n one who is involved with tzt"z with faith Moreinu HaRav Yehuda Leib HaLevi Horowitz, your contribution for children's aid and Yeshivos, according to the attached receipts. I am certain that this is evidence of your ongoing interest in supporting these most important institutions.
And just as every living thing grows, so too will your interest grow. As our Sages say: "Ma'alin b'kodesh" (we ascend in holiness). This is especially relevant as we find ourselves in the days of Chanukah, when the decree was to cause them to forget Your Torah and to turn them away from the statutes of Your will. According to the words of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—of blessed memory—who said in the name of his holy ancestors: "One must listen to what the Chanukah lights tell us," and apply this lesson in serving Hashem. Ultimately, it was through Jewish self-sacrifice that they prevailed: "They purified Your sanctuary and kindled lights in Your holy courtyards." We were commanded to do likewise—to kindle lights during Chanukah—and specifically in a manner that increases continuously; that is, each night should bring more light. This serves as a general instruction for a Jew's conduct regarding Torah and mitzvos: one must bring light even into darkness—not only inside one's home but also, as the Gemara says: "al petach beito mi'bachutz" (at the entrance of his house facing outward). The measure of the Holy One is measure for measure: He brings light into everyone's home with children, life, and abundant sustenance.

The Rebbe teaches that just as we increase light each night of Chanukah, so too should we always increase our efforts in supporting Torah institutions and spreading holiness outward—even beyond our own homes—bringing blessings for children, life, and sustenance.
