במענה על מכתבו מבשר מיום מלאת ארבע שנים לבנם ישראל שי' הכהן.
הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שמתאים למ"ש במדרש תנחומא ועיין ג"כ הלכות ת"ת לרבנו הזקן בתחלתו ובשו"ע יו"ד סי' רמ"ה סעיף ה' בהגהה, הרי לאחר שבשנה הרביעית יהי' כל פריו קדש כשאביו מקדשו לתורה הילולים לד', הרי משנה חמישית ואילך, ימשיכו קדושה זו בחינוכו, ויגדלוהו בריא ושלם הוא וזוגתו שיחיו את כל ילידי' שיחיו, לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים.

Greetings and blessing!
In reply to your letter bringing the news of the day your son Yisrael HaKohen, may he live, completed four years.
May it be G‑d's will, in keeping with what is said in Midrash Tanchuma, and see also Hilchos Talmud Torah of the Alter Rebbe at its beginning, and Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah, siman 245, se'if 5, in the gloss, that after in the fourth year "all its fruit shall be holy," when the father consecrates him to Torah, "a praise to G‑d," then from the fifth year on you will continue this holiness in his education, and that you and your wife, may you live, raise in health and wholeness all your children, may they live, to Torah, to chuppah and to good deeds.
