שלום וברכה!
במענה על מכתבו מח' מ"ח, הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שיצליח במלאכת שמים - השגחה על תלמידי ישיבת תורת אמת.
וכבר ידוע, אשר אחריות המשגיח היא גדולה פי כמה [מ]אחריות הר"מ והר"י, כי הרי עליהם ללמוד התורה עם התלמידים ולפניהם, שבזה אין התנגדות כ"כ מהלעו"ז, כיון שהתורה היא לחם מן השמים ודברי תורה אין מקבלים טומאה, שמצד עצמם אין בם פסולת, וכן מצד הלומד לא תמיד נוגע כ"כ, כיון שאם ח"ו לא זכה נעשית לו כו' - משא"כ על המשגיח לראות שהתורה תלמדהו, כפתגם נשיאנו הק', שמתעצם עמה עד שנקראת תורתו, דאורייתא וישראל כולא חד, ונגד זה נלחם היצה"ר ומושך עמדו גם את הנה"ב - בכל תוקף, אבל כיון שכמרז"ל אפי' ריש גרגותא[2] הרי מן שמיא קא ממנו לי' - בודאי ניתנו לו הכחות למלאות תפקידו זה, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצונו הטוב. ויצליחו השי"ת שלאחר זמן קצר יוכל לאמר ראו גידולים שגדלתי.

בודאי למותר לעוררו אשר כמו שבחיות הגוף הגשמי, אפילו החיות שבהגוף מצד עצמו, מתחזק ומתוסף ע"י גילוי החיות הנשמה, כן הוא בהנוגע לגופא דאורייתא ולנשמתא דאורייתא כמובן.

Greetings and blessing!
In reply to your letter of 8 MarCheshvan: may it be G‑d's will that you succeed in the work of Heaven, the supervision of the students of Yeshivas Toras Emes.
It is known that the responsibility of the mashgiach is many times greater [than] that of the Rosh Mesivta and the Rosh Yeshivah. For they must study the Torah with the students and before them, and in this there is not so much opposition from the opposite side, since the Torah is bread from heaven and words of Torah do not receive impurity, having in themselves no waste; and likewise on the part of the student it is not always so critical, since if, G‑d forbid, he is not worthy, it becomes for him, etc. Whereas the mashgiach must see that the Torah teaches him, as in the saying of our holy Nasi, that he becomes united with it until it is called his Torah, "the Torah and Israel are entirely one." Against this the yetzer hara fights, and draws along with him the animal soul too, with all its force. But since, as our Sages say, "even the overseer of the wells is appointed from Heaven," he surely has been given the powers to fulfill this task, and the matter depends only on his good will. May G‑d grant you success, so that after a short time you will be able to say, "See the growth I have raised."

It is surely unnecessary to remind you that just as with the vitality of the physical body, even the vitality in the body of itself is strengthened and increased through the revelation of the soul's vitality, so it is with the body of the Torah and the soul of the Torah, as is understood.
