ארבעטנדיק די גאנצע יארן אין דער ישיבה הק' תומכי תמימים און זעענדיק אז דאס האט אייך געבראכט הצלחה אין אייערע ענינים, דארף מען דעם צנור וכלי ח"ו ניט אפלאזן. דערפאר קומט בא מיר אויס אז איר דארפט בלייבן במשרתו בקדש, ואדרבה אויב מעגלעך מוסיף זיין אין דער ארבעט, און מען דארף האפן, אז די ישיבה וועט זיך פארגרעסערן, אויף וואס מען דארף זיך אויך משתדל זיין און דאס וועט מסתם אויך ברענגען א הוספה אין שכירות און פרנסה.
זעלבסטפארשטענדלעך, אז אויב עס קען זיין אן ענין נוסף אין פרנסה אויף אן אופן וואס זאל ניט שטערן אויף א האר אין אייער מלאכת הקדש, מאכט ניט אויס, אבער אך ורק מיט דעם תנאי.
והשי"ת ימלא הריון זוגתו תחי' ותמלא ימי' כשורה ותלד זרעא חייא וקיימא.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received your two letters from the 18th of Tammuz and the 4th of Menachem Av, in which you ask my opinion about changing your channel of livelihood. Having worked all these years in the holy Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim and seeing that this has brought you success in your affairs, one should not, G‑d forbid, abandon this channel and vessel.
Therefore, it seems to me that you should remain in your sacred position; on the contrary, if possible, you should even increase your work. One should also hope that the Yeshiva will expand—which you should also strive for—and this will presumably bring an increase in salary and livelihood as well.
Of course, if there can be an additional source of income in a way that does not interfere even slightly with your holy work, it is acceptable—but only under this condition.
May Hashem fill the pregnancy of your wife—may she live—and may she complete her days properly and give birth to living and enduring offspring.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that one should not abandon a successful position in holy work for other employment. Additional sources of income are acceptable only if they do not interfere with one's sacred responsibilities.
