Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from the end of Sivan, I was shocked to read about your unusual plans for the future as a result of various "disagreements" you had with the administration of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim... This whole matter is puzzling because just as it is the role of a member of the administration to run the yeshiva to the best of his ability with dedication and self-sacrifice, so too it is the role of the students to diligently study as much as possible with dedication and self-sacrifice. Only through both parties striving together is a yeshiva built.

It seems from your letter that you and some friends are interfering in the administration of the yeshiva. Aside from our Sages' saying that 'the destruction by elders is construction,' it is impossible for your involvement in any matter not to distract you from learning. Therefore, it is almost certain—even in your own eyes—that all this involvement in administrative matters is a tactic of the yetzer hara to pull you away from learning and likely also from prayer as much as possible. As appears from your letter, you have already experienced this tangibly since you write that you left yeshiva for home, which likely means you stopped learning, etc., making it clear where this all stems from.

If you heed my advice, you will immediately return to yeshiva and devote yourself to studying nigleh and Chassidus as much as possible. Know clearly that all excuses—such as lacking friends, diligence, or taste for learning—are simply interpretations of the word "excuse" (emtlah): emes-lo (truth—not), meaning they come from the yetzer hara who has apparently succeeded in tempting you until now. Nevertheless, every Jew is assured that in one moment he can turn completely around—especially since you have merited to study for some time in the yeshiva of my revered father-in-law, whose soul invested eternal powers there that affect all who studied within its walls.

May Hashem grant you success so this happens for you as soon as possible and you return to study—in a way that at least partially corrects the past (to whatever extent this applies regarding Torah study, where every moment is an obligation in itself).

Awaiting good news,
in the name of my revered father-in-law shlita
