Oral Torah Study, Tzedakah, and Outreach as Correction for Sin

The Rebbe advises increasing Torah and prayer, memorizing Mishnayos and Tanya, giving tzedakah before prayer, and influencing youth toward G-d. Most importantly, one should not dwell on the sin or its correction but serve Hashem with joy to gradually improve.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from the 29th of Iyar: Increase in the letters of Torah and prayer and strive to engrave in your mind at least some chapters of Mishnayos and some chapters of Tanya, as well as the discourse Devarim HaMaschil Vehodarta Pnei Zaken in Likkutei Torah at the end of Parshas Kedoshim. Also, set aside every Monday and Thursday before morning prayers a coin or two for tzedakah, and do your best to influence youth to draw their hearts closer to our Father in Heaven.

In addition to all this—and this is the main point—remove your mind from the sin and even from its correction. All the above is a segulah and rectification; when you serve Hashem with joy, you will gradually feel an improvement in your situation. May it be His will that you begin this soon.

Certainly it is unnecessary to remind you about keeping the three daily study portions established by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal—namely Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—as is well known.

With blessing for success in your matters.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that correcting a sin involves practical steps—Torah study by heart, tzedakah before prayer, outreach to youth—but most importantly serving Hashem with joy without dwelling on past faults. Consistent daily study brings gradual improvement.
