Havavac"h iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z b'emunah Mr. A. Shklovski
Shalom u'Vrachah!
In recent times I received your letter—without a date of writing—in which you describe the situation in the Chabad shul in Petach Tikvah, and I was pleased to receive additional information that the situation is improving, and I hope it will continue to go from strength to strength.
It is self-evident that for every matter, Hashem requires that it be done also through natural means. In matters of the shul and beis midrash, this depends on the gabbaim, and when one acts accordingly, one can be certain that there will be blessing from Hashem Yisborach, as is His promise: "u'Veirachcha Hashem Elokecha b'chol asher ta'aseh" (and Hashem your G‑d will bless you in all that you do), especially when it concerns meriting the public. In particular, when it is about a Chabad shul—our holy leaders gave their lives for Anash so that Chabad shuls would be maintained and grow larger and serve according to our Sages' saying: each is a "mikdash me'at" (a small sanctuary), from which light and warmth should spread into the homes of those who attend.
It is a great merit for one whom Heaven has chosen to be a gabbai in such a shul, able to fulfill the will of our holy leaders in these matters mentioned above. I hope to hear good news from you regarding this.
And in these days before Matan Torah—the Midrash says all 600,000 Jews had to be present; if even one was missing, it would have delayed giving the holy Torah—you should strengthen yourself in every kind of effort to draw close anyone possible to Torah and mitzvos. Through this one receives both the Torah and also the Giver of the Torah. According to our Sages' saying: The beginning of Matan Torah is the command "Anochi," which are initials for "Ana Nafshi Kesavis Yehavis" (I Myself wrote and gave) (Shabbos 105a, Tanya ch. 47).
With blessing—in the wording of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal—for receiving the Torah with joy and inwardness, for you and all those who pray in the Chabad shul. Awaiting good news.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that a Chabad shul must always strive to grow and illuminate its community. Gabbaim have a special merit and responsibility to foster this growth and to reach out, bringing more Jews closer to Torah and mitzvos.
