Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter from Motzaei Shabbat Parshat Va'era, regarding what you wrote about the path of avodah in facing the schemes of the yetzer hara. Our great Nasi, our teacher the Alter Rebbe, has already guided us in Tanya chapter 29. He also instructs to shout at it with a voice of noise and anger to humble it, "And you despicable one... denying the truth that is visible to the eyes," etc. The reason is that in truth there is no substance at all to the sitra achra; rather, it exists only so that a person will be aroused to overcome it and humble it, and then it is automatically nullified and pushed aside.
However, one must beware of what our Sages said: "Anyone who flatters a wicked person will ultimately... G‑d forbid." For this reason, one needs the aforementioned conduct of strength and proper overcoming; this also applies to those sent by the yetzer hara, etc. There is no need to elaborate further on this point—especially in these days before the yahrzeit (hillula), which is an auspicious day for all who follow in the footsteps of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nevuga mishkav zichrono tzaddik livracha (may his memory be a blessing), who uphold his ways and conduct and support the institutions he founded and led. In these institutions there must always be an increase in holiness with expansion and growth. It is above any doubt that their efforts will prevail—as stated by my revered father-in-law's predecessor (the Mitteler Rebbe), quoted at the end of page 122 in Sefer Kitzurim L'Tanya: "It was decreed in the heavenly court that in every matter of Torah, fear of Heaven, and good character traits—the hand of his followers and those who walk in his path will be victorious." May Hashem grant you merit and success to see this tangibly—even with physical eyes—as soon as possible.
b) All that was written above applies not only to you but also to your wife and relatives—since it appears from your letter that they lack somewhat in "his heart was uplifted in the ways of Hashem."
c) Enclosed is the maamar delivered last year on Yud Shevat; surely you will generously share it with others for their merit.
Blessings for proper health physically and spiritually for each one awaiting good news.
Summary
The letter teaches us to confront negative impulses with inner strength while avoiding any flattery or compromise with evil. By steadfastly following chassidic guidance and supporting holy institutions, we ensure spiritual victory and blessing.
