Avoiding Arguments and Inspiring Torah Study in the Home

The Rebbe writes that one should refrain from engaging in disputes, especially with one's wife, and instead act with restraint. He also advises to gently encourage Torah study and Chassidus at home, prioritizing the ultimate goal over minor concerns.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

...In general, matters such as these—conflict and strife—require the participation of two parties. When one side sees that there is no attention given, no excitement or participation in the conflict, then gradually their own agitation and appetite for it diminish until it disappears entirely. So too in our case: one must restrain himself and not enter into debate. Bearing in mind that women's perspective is lighter and a woman's tears are readily available, one should yield where possible and ignore the rest; ultimately, the good side will prevail.

...Regarding what you wrote about your response to the Avrech... Although generally one must be careful not to give the impression that we are chasing after them, nevertheless it is impossible to forget the ultimate purpose—which is to bring them knowledge of Chassidus, its teachings and ways. Because of the greatness of this matter, other reasons do not compare. Therefore, after waiting a few days, it is worthwhile to steer the conversation from topic to topic until eventually there will be an opportunity to once again raise the matter of setting fixed times for Torah study in general and for Chassidus in particular.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that avoiding arguments—especially at home—brings peace and allows goodness to prevail. He also encourages gently inspiring others toward Torah study and Chassidus by focusing on the higher purpose rather than minor obstacles.
