May the Almighty grant to my mechutan, Haraha"ch vavaha"g vavac"h iy"a nu"m etc. Moreinu HaRav Reb Gershon sheyichyeh
Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the fourth of Va'eschanan: there is no need to apologize for what you wrote to me; there was no concern of offense here at all. At all times I am pleased to hear about what is happening with Anash sheyichyu. If the news is good, it brings satisfaction and joy; even if G‑d forbid it is otherwise, still—the very act of maintaining correspondence strengthens and lessens the feeling of loneliness and low spirits.
It is well known, as explained in several books, that even if it is impossible to help materially, at least a positive thought and good wishes from one Jew to another have significance. It is also known how valuable it is when one openly expresses the virtues of his friend and mentions what he lacks; this has an effect—sometimes immediately, sometimes later—in easing his situation (see the explanation in the parable of Reb Hillel of Paritch brought in HaT'mimim vol. II and printed in Kuntres Mikhtav Alef p. 20). It is also known that the Baal Shem Tov strove to cause simple people to speak well of one another; through this judgments were sweetened.
I will read your pidyon nefesh in the chamber of my father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, where people enter for giving pidyonos and for yechidus; likewise at an opportune time at the gravesite of my father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m. And a tzaddik blesses and the Almighty fulfills a tzaddik's blessings—he is found in this world even more than during his lifetime—in their fullness.
Regarding your comment on Likkutei Torah Parshas Shelach, discourse "Inyan HaNesachim" (page 42b), which says: "And so too for a niddah and zavah their purification must be specifically with living water." You ask that this seems contrary to halachah since a niddah or zavah does not require living water; you mention that you saw this in Rashi somewhere but do not recall exactly where. Surely you mean Rashi on Shabbos 65b; see also Tosafos there. What is written in Likkutei Torah follows what is written in Zohar III p. 97b: "U'Sfartem lachem... lachem precisely... as it says 'and she shall count for herself seven days,' for herself... so too 'for yourselves,' why? In order to be purified with water... there 'and she shall count for herself seven days,' here 'seven weeks'... to be purified with water from that river that flows forth and is called living water... just as a woman purifies herself at night...", which refers to niddah—and Zohar deduces "is called living water." Seemingly—what difference does this make here? See Ramaz there about the virtue of mem-ches (48) and its levels. Also see Tikunei Zohar Tikkun 19 near its beginning.
Signing with blessing and regards to all the group generally and especially to your household,
Menachem Schneerson

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that maintaining communication among Chassidim brings strength even during difficulties. He emphasizes expressing positive thoughts about others can have real spiritual impact. The letter also demonstrates careful attention to halachic detail by referencing primary sources.
