(1) Since there are so many doubts, it is understood that one should not say yes.
(2) A yeshiva student at the age of twenty, as written—there is doubt whether he is even ready for marriage at all. And to become engaged with the intention that the wedding will be in a year or more—is not appropriate at all.
Summary
The Rebbe writes that if there are many uncertainties, one should not proceed. For a yeshiva student of twenty, readiness for marriage is questionable, and long engagements are discouraged.
