בזמנו קבלתי מכתבו בקשר להמסעדה הכשרה בבולוני'; ומובן אשר תיכף באתי במגע עם גורמים שונים בזה, שדיווחו לי מהתפתחות הדברים והטבה ניכרת וכו'. ותקותי שהבטחת הגורמים לעזור ככל התלוי בהם יצאה לפועל, וינעם לי לקבל מכתב עם בשורות טובות בזה.
בהכנסנו לחודש אלו"ל, ידוע ביאור כ"ק אדמו"ר הזקן בענין סגולת ימי חודש זה, על פי משל ממלך שקודם בואו לעיר יוצאין אנשי העיר להקביל פניו בשדה, ואז רשאין כל מי שרוצה להקביל פניו, והוא מקבל את כולם בסבר פנים יפות ומראה פנים שוחקות לכולם וכו' (לקוטי תורה; ראה ל"ב).
וידוע מנהג אדמו"ר הזקן, שכשהי' אומר משל הי' מדוייק גם בפרטיו; ועל דרך זה גם במשל האמור דמלך בשדה, שבכלל אפשר ללמוד ממנו כמה וכמה ענינים, ובתוכם גם דלהלן:
ברוחניות, כשאדם "בשדה", הרי זה משמע בכללות שעוסק בענינים שאינם קשורים ישר עם קיום מצוות או לימוד תורתנו הק', אבל גם אז צריך להיות בדוגמת "שדה" שממנו יוצא
לחם
. וברוחניות הוא מה שקוראים חכמינו ז"ל – שכדרכם בקודש מביעים שיטה שלימה במלים ספורות –
"כל
מעשיך יהיו לשם שמים".
ובחודש אלול יש נקודה נוספת שאז שעת הכושר במיוחד להתבונן ולראות עוד יותר בהדגשה עניני השגחה פרטית של בורא עולם ומנהיגו

בעל בית לבירה זו,
התבוננות
עד לאופן שמעורר אהבה לבורא ית' וכמו שאנו אומרים בקריאת שמע פעמים בכל יום:
ואהבת
את ה' אלקיך. והוא מה שאדמו"ר הזקן ג"כ מביא בתור הקדמה למשל האמור בתור יסוד והתחלה לכל המאמר:
"אני
(כל אחד מבני ישראל)
לדודי (זה הקב"ה)
ודודי לי – ראשי תיבות אלו"ל". שאם קורא להקב"ה "דודי", הרי זה מראה שהוא במצב של ואהבת את ה"א.
ועוד במשל האמור, שאז מקבל את כל אחד בספ"י, הרי בנמשל הוא שכיון שחודש אלול הוא הקדמה והכנה לראש השנה, הרי בחודש זה שעת הכושר להתכונן ולקבל שנה טובה ומתוקה בגו"ר גם יחד.
בודאי למותר להדגיש למר גודל חשיבות הצעירים והנוער בכל ענינים האמורים,
וכמדובר
כמה פעמים שהנוער עדין לא רגיל כל כך בפשרות ומוכן לנהל מלחמות על כל אתגר ואינו נרתע אפילו בפני אתגר גדול הדורש מאמצים גדולים וכו'.
ויהי רצון שיבשרו טוב בכל האמור. ומובן שכל הכתוב מופנה לכל חברי הארגון שי'.

I received your letter regarding the kosher restaurant in Bologna; naturally, I immediately contacted various parties about this matter, who reported to me on its development and noticeable improvement, etc. I hope that the promise of those involved to help as much as they can has been fulfilled, and I would be pleased to receive a letter with good news about this.
As we enter the month of Elul, it is well known how the Alter Rebbe explains the unique quality of these days through a parable: Before a king enters a city, its people go out to greet him in the field; at that time anyone who wishes may approach him, and he receives everyone with a pleasant countenance and a smiling face (Likkutei Torah; see also Lech Lecha B). It is also known that when the Alter Rebbe would tell a parable, every detail was precise; similarly with this parable of the king in the field—there are many lessons to be learned from it, including those below:
In spiritual terms: When a person is "in the field," it generally means being involved in matters not directly related to fulfilling mitzvos or studying our holy Torah. Yet even then one should resemble a field from which bread comes forth. Spiritually this refers to what our Sages say—who in their holy way express complete philosophies in just a few words—"All your deeds should be for the sake of Heaven." In Elul there is an added point: it is an especially opportune time to reflect more deeply on Divine Providence—that there is a Master over this world—until such contemplation awakens love for our Creator. As we say twice daily in Shema: "And you shall love Hashem your G‑d." The Alter Rebbe also brings as an introduction to this parable—and as its foundation—the verse: "Ani (each Jew) leDodi (this is Hashem) veDodi li" (I am my Beloved's and my Beloved is mine)—the initials spell Elul. If one calls Hashem 'my Beloved,' it shows he is truly at a level of "And you shall love Hashem..."
Another point from this parable: since during Elul everyone is received graciously (with a pleasant countenance), so too spiritually—since Elul prepares us for Rosh Hashanah—it is an opportune time to prepare for and receive a good and sweet year both materially and spiritually together.
Certainly it goes without saying how important youth are regarding all these matters; as discussed many times before—the young are not yet accustomed to compromise and are ready to fight for every challenge without shrinking even from great efforts required by major challenges. May you have only good news regarding all these matters.
Of course everything written here applies to all members of your organization.

The month of Elul offers everyone direct access to G‑dliness—even amid daily life—and youth play an especially vital role by embracing challenges with enthusiasm and dedication. Every action can be elevated when done for Heaven's sake during this auspicious time.
