לקחתי ואשיבנו, שהשי"ת ימלא משאלות לבבו לטובה בכל עניניו הפרטיים והכלליים, כולל הכתוב בראשית מכתבו שהוא נין ונכד של ר'
ברוך
מרדכי אטינגר ז"ל מבוברויסק, שבודאי יודע הפרטים איך [שהי'] מחסידיו הראשונים והכי נאמנים של רבנו הזקן בעל התניא והשולחן ערוך, מייסד חב"ד וראש שושילתא דמשפחת שניאורסאהן הענפה.
תקותי חזקה שזכרון צור מחצבתו הוא גורם פעיל לא רק אצל מר כי אם גם אצל אחיו מר ארי' לובה שי' אליאב, ובפרט על פי הרושם שנשאר אצלי מפגישתנו האישית עם אחיו לפני כמה שנים כשהי' בארצות הברית, ועוד ועיקר ששמעתי רבות מפעולות אחיו בנוגע ישוב ארץ ישראל, ארצנו הקדושה, ובמיוחד לטובת אלו שעלו מארצנו לפנים.
ואוסיף תקותי אשר משתדל אחיו וגם הוא וכל העובדים בשטח זה שתהי' עלי' זו באופן דתרתי משמע, עלי' גם ברוחניות, אשר העם היושב בה בצדק ובגאון ישא התואר של
"ממלכת
כהנים וגוי קדוש". ומדגיש אני

ובלשון הכתוב
: "וראו כל עמי הארץ כי שם ה' נקרא עליך ויראו ממך", והארץ תתאים לשמה, אשר ארץ הקודש ייקרא לה, ועד שנקראת כן בפי כל העמים – ברוסית וכיו"ב.
ומעין האמור בנוגע לעלי' תרתי משמע, יהי רצון שגם במקצוע של מר, שככתבו שהוא מנהל רשת החשמל, יאיר בתי בני ישראל וגם הרחובות ורשות הרבים של ארץ ישראל באור כפשוטו ובאור הפנימי מתאים להוראת ימי הפורים שזה עתה באנו מהם:
ליהודים
היתה אורה וגו',
והוסיפו חכמינו ז"ל
בפירושם: אורה זו תורה.
בכבוד ובברכה.

Your letter from the 9th of Shevat with its enclosure reached me after some delay. I will begin with the end of your letter where you conclude with a blessing; I have received your blessing and return it: May Hashem fulfill all the wishes of your heart for good in all your personal and communal matters—including what you wrote at the beginning of your letter that you are a great-grandson of Reb Baruch Mordechai Ettinger z"l from Bobruisk. Surely you know the details of how he was one of the first and most loyal chassidim of our master the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch, founder of Chabad and head of the Schneersohn family dynasty.
I have strong hope that remembering your illustrious ancestor is an active influence not only for you but also for your brother Aryeh Luba Eliav—especially based on my impression from my personal meeting with your brother several years ago when he was in the United States—and even more so from what I have heard about his activities regarding settling Eretz Yisrael, our holy land, especially for those who immigrated from our land previously.
I further hope that your brother—and you as well as all those working in this field—strive that this aliyah be in both senses: an ascent also in spirituality so that those dwelling there will rightfully and proudly bear the title "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." I emphasize with pride—and in the words of Scripture: "V'ra'u kol amei ha'aretz ki shem Hashem nikra alecha v'yare'u mimeka" (And all the peoples of the earth will see that the name of Hashem is called upon you and they will fear you), and that the land will live up to its name—so it will be called "the Holy Land," even by all nations—in Russian and so on.
In line with what was said about aliyah in both senses, may it be G‑d's will that also in your profession—as you wrote that you are director of the electric grid—the homes of Bnei Yisrael as well as the streets and public spaces in Eretz Yisrael be illuminated literally and with inner light appropriate to these days following Purim: "LaYehudim hayta orah..." (For the Jews there was light...), which our Sages interpret: "Orah zu Torah" (Light means Torah).
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true aliyah involves both physical settlement and spiritual elevation. By taking pride in our heritage and illuminating Eretz Yisrael materially and spiritually—especially through Torah—we fulfill our role as a holy nation.
