בנועם נתקבל מכתבו מי"ח כסלו, לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך, אף שבינתים דרשתי עליו על ידי ידידינו המשותפים ושמחתי לקבל ידיעות שמשתף בפעולה עמהם ועוזר להם וכו'.
ותקותי חזקה שכיון
שפרש
לגמלאות, והרי זמנו ברשותו יותר, בודאי יוכל להוסיף בהאמור. ובאותו ענין, נהניתי לראותו מסב אצל השולחן בהתועדות כפר חב"ד בהתמונה ששלחו לי.
מובן שתענוג מיוחד גרם לי במה שכותב שח"ו לא פרש מעסקנות ציבורית ומתפקיד פעיל בכלל, כי אם אדרבה, שנבחר לתפקיד אחראי של ראש מועצה איזורית.
ויהי רצון שיצליח בתפקידו האחראי והנעלה הזה, ויבסס ויחזק את האזור בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד, אשר באם בנוגע לכל עם ולכל מקום תלוי זה בזה, על אחת כמה וכמה בנוגע לעמנו עם קדוש בארץ ישראל ארץ הקודש, אשר לא רק תלויים זה בזה אלא חד הוא וק"ל.
ויהי רצון שיעשה גם בזה מתוך בריאות הנכונה ושמחה וטוב לבב, וזכות הרבים מסייעתו.
בכבוד ובברכה למילוי משאלות לבבו לטובה בכל הענינים שכותב, ובאופן וכהוראת ימי חנוכה הבאים לקראתינו לטובה, שמצוה העיקרית דימים אלו היא הדלקת נר חנוכה ומוסיפין

It was pleasant to receive your letter from the 8th of Kislev, after the longest interval, even though in the meantime I inquired about you through our mutual friends and was happy to receive reports that you are cooperating with them and assisting them, etc. My strong hope is that since you have retired and now have more free time, you will certainly be able to increase your involvement in these matters.
On this topic, I enjoyed seeing you sitting at the table during the farbrengen in Kfar Chabad in the photo that was sent to me. It is clear that I had special pleasure from what you wrote—that you have not withdrawn from public service or from being active in general; on the contrary, you were chosen for the responsible position of head of a regional council.
May it be G‑d's will that you succeed in this responsible and elevated role and that you establish and strengthen the region both materially and spiritually together. If this is true regarding every nation and every place—that these are interdependent—how much more so regarding our holy people in Eretz Yisrael, the Holy Land, where not only are they dependent on each other but they are truly one.
May it be G‑d's will that you accomplish all this with proper health and with joy and gladness of heart, and may the merit of the many assist you.
With honor and blessing for the fulfillment of all your heart's wishes for good in all matters about which you write—and in a manner following the guidance of these approaching days of Chanukah for good: that the main mitzvah of these days is lighting the Chanukah candle and increasing light day by day—going higher in light. May you have only good news regarding all these matters.
P.S. It is surprising that you wrote that you did not receive a response to your previous letters; as far as I recall I already answered them some time ago.
