Regarding your question about a shidduch for your sister—whether the father must make a special effort in this matter—it is well known what our Sages said about the great importance of this commandment, based on the verse "Et Bnotai Natati LaIsh HaZeh" (I have given my daughters to this man), and how much effort must be invested in it. They even said that regarding this it is written "Le'ehovah Et Hashem U'ledavka Bo" (to love G‑d and to cleave to Him), which is a positive commandment from the Torah.
