במענה למכתבן מיום ט"ו בסיון, בקשר עם הבחינות, הנה כבקשתן אזכירן למילוי משאלות לבבן לטובה ולברכה ולהסתדרות נכונה שמכאן ולהבא תוכלנה להוסיף בהתמדה והתמסרות (ללימודי קדש, לימוד המביא לידי מעשה) להנהגה טובה ביראת שמים, כיאות לבנות ישראל, בנות אמותינו שרה רבקה רחל ולאה.
ידוע מאמר רבינו הבעל-שם-טוב זי"ע אשר מכל ענין צריך ללמוד (הנהגה טובה) בעבודת השם יתברך ויתעלה. ומכאן הוראה, לכל איש ואשה הישראליים, שאם יש בחינה באיזה ענין, הרי לכל לראש צריך להתבונן ולעשות בחינה עצמית בעניני קדושה, היינו בהנהגה בתורה ומצוה, כי באלה כל אדם נבחן בכל יום, ובלשון רבינו הזקן בעל התניא: "והנה ה' נצב עליו ומלא כל הארץ כבודו ומביט עליו ובוחן כליות ולב אם עובדו כראוי" (ריש פרק מ"א, עיי"ש).

In response to your letter from the 15th of Sivan regarding the exams: As you requested, I will mention you for the fulfillment of your heart's wishes for good and blessing, and for proper adjustment so that from now on you can increase in diligence and devotion (to sacred studies—learning that leads to action), with good conduct in awe of Heaven, as is fitting for daughters of Israel, daughters of our mothers Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel, and Leah.
It is known from our master the Baal Shem Tov z"l that from every matter one must learn (a good practice) in serving Hashem. From this comes a lesson for every Jewish man and woman: If there is an exam in any matter, first one must reflect and conduct a self-examination in matters of holiness—that is, in conduct regarding Torah and mitzvah—for in these every person is tested daily. In the words of our master the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya: "And behold Hashem stands over him and fills all the earth with His glory; He watches him and examines his mind and heart to see if he serves Him properly" (beginning of chapter 41; see there).

The Rebbe teaches that exams are not only academic but also spiritual opportunities for self-examination. By reflecting on our conduct in Torah and mitzvos during times of testing, we can grow stronger in our service of Hashem.
