בתמהון גדול קראתי מכתבו מעש"ק תצוה, בו כותב אודות נכדו הנעלה האברך ירא שמים ות"ח... אשר מתבטא שאין לו נחת ממנו (ח"ו) כבריאות גופו וכו'.
ותיכף שאלתי וחקרתי להנעשה את נכדו שי' ומסרו לי עוד הפעם ע"ד הצלחתו בלימוד התורה, לימוד המביא לידי מעשה, כמובן וגם פשוט, ובהנוגע לבריאותו, אשר - הרופא מצא שהכל אתו בסדר, אלא שכנראה טבע נפשו, שתובע מעצמו תמיד בנוגע למצבו ברוחניות ובמילא פועל על הבריאות וכו', מובן וגם פשוט אשר נסיעה וטלטול ממקום למקום, לא ישנה בזה מאומה, והלואי שלא יזיק, שהרי הורנו חז"ל, לעולם ילמוד אדם במקום שלבו חפץ, ומי יודע איך יסתגל במקום החדש.
ולהמשך מכתבו אשר במקום חדש ילמוד ג"כ איזה אומנות, כי טוב תורה עם דרך ארץ, הרי במכתבו זה עצמו, הקדים תורה לדרך ארץ, ובודאי ובודאי שעדיין לא הגיע זמן נכדו שי' לגזול מהשעות אשר מקדיש הוא להתמדה ושקידה בלימוד תורתנו תורת חיים, חיים גם כפשוטם בעולם הזה הגשמי, ולהתבלבל בחשבונות רבים מחשבות בני אדם ותחבולותיהם היפך מזה שהאלקים עשה את האדם ישר.
יודע הנני אשר אויר מדינה זו גורם למחשבות בנוגע לתכלית, בגיל הרך של הבנים והבנות, אבל כל המביט בעינים גלויות על הנעשה סביבו, רואה על כל צער ושעל, שברובא מסתדרים בפרנסה דוקא לא בזו האומנות שלמד בעודו רך.
שולח הנני העתק מכתבי גם לבנו הרב שי' כיון שאיני יודע ממי באו סברות הכתובות במכתב כ' (אף שלכאורה הרי הן בהיפך מפעולות בנו הרב שי' לילך נגד הזרם דארצוה"ב, פעולות במרץ ומבלי התחשב עם דעת הרבים וכו' וכו').
ויהי רצון אשר נוסף על הנחת רוח שיש לו עתה מנכדו שי' והלואי ועוד יותר מכל יו"ח שי' נחת אמיתי, יוסיף השם כהנה וכהנה ע"י הצלחה מופלגה של נכדו בלימוד התורה בנגלה ובחסידות, מבלי הפרעות ענינים מבחוץ, ובודאי כשיוכל ללמוד במנוחה, יקוים בו אשריך בעוה"ז וטוב לך וכו'.

נ.ב. וכיון שהכל בהשגחה פרטית, עלי החובה (והזכות) לעוררו על ההכרח לקבוע עתים בלימוד פנימיות התורה, שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות, קביעות בכל יום ובהוספה ביום השבת, כמבואר בכתבי האריז"ל החי.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
With great astonishment I read your letter from Erev Shabbat Kodesh Tetzaveh, in which you write about your esteemed grandson, the Avrech who is G‑d-fearing and a Torah scholar... expressing that you do not have satisfaction from him (G‑d forbid) regarding his health, etc. I immediately inquired about your grandson and was informed once again about his success in Torah study—study that leads to action, as is obvious and simple—and regarding his health, the doctor found everything to be in order. It seems that by nature he always demands more of himself spiritually, which then affects his health, etc.
It is clear and simple that traveling from place to place will not change anything in this regard—and hopefully will not harm him—for our Sages taught: "A person should always study where his heart desires," and who knows how he would adapt to a new place.
Regarding your suggestion that in a new place he should also learn a trade—since "Torah is good with Derech Eretz"—in this very letter you placed Torah before Derech Eretz. Certainly your grandson has not yet reached the stage where he should take away hours dedicated to diligent Torah study—our Torah of life, which gives life even literally in this physical world—and become confused by many human calculations and schemes contrary to what G‑d made man upright for.
I know that the atmosphere of this country causes people to think about future prospects at a young age for both boys and girls. But anyone who looks openly at what happens around them sees at every step that most people end up earning their livelihood not through the trade they learned when young.
I am sending a copy of my letter also to his father the rabbi since I do not know from whom these opinions in your letter originated (even though they seem contrary to his father's energetic actions against the prevailing trends of this country—actions done with vigor regardless of popular opinion).
May it be G‑d's will that in addition to the satisfaction you now have from your grandson—and may it increase even more than all previous satisfaction—you will have true nachas (pleasure), and may Hashem add even more through outstanding success of your grandson in studying both Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus without outside disturbances. Surely when he can learn calmly it will be fulfilled for him: "Ashrecha baOlam HaZeh v'Tov lach" (Happy are you in this world and it is good for you), etc.

P.S. Since everything is by Divine Providence, I feel obligated (and privileged) to remind you of the necessity to set fixed times for learning the inner dimension of Torah—which in our generation has been revealed through Chassidus—with daily consistency and extra on Shabbat as explained in the writings of the living Arizal. Learning that brings: Kiddushin 40b; our Sages taught: Avodah Zarah 19a; "Torah is good": Avot 2:2; "It will be fulfilled for him": Avot 6:4.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that spiritual growth should be prioritized over external pressures or societal expectations. Consistent Torah study brings true fulfillment and well-being; distractions or premature career concerns should not disrupt dedicated learning during formative years.
