ויהי רצון מתאים לתורת רבנו הזקן על הכתוב ויחי יעקב בארץ מצרים, אויך אין מצרים איז געווען ויחי, געלעבט (עיין היום יום פרשת ויחי, פרשת שבוע זה),
שכל הענינים המצירים ומעיקים יהי' בהם געלעבט וזה ימהר קיום מאמר חז"ל בכגון זה, גם זו לטובה, שזה עצמו נהפך לטוב,
וכידוע ההוספה בענין "גם זו לטובה" על הענין "כל מה דעביד רחמנא לטב עביד", ובהתוצאות מהנ"ל (כמובן גם מהסיפורים בזה שבחז"ל).

In response to your letter from the third candle (of Chanukah) which was received recently, in which you write at length about various areas, may it be G‑d's will in accordance with the teaching of our master the Alter Rebbe on the verse 'Vayechi Yaakov b'Eretz Mitzrayim' ('And Yaakov lived in the land of Egypt'), that even in Egypt there was 'Vayechi'—he truly lived (see Hayom Yom for Parshas Vayechi, this week's Torah portion), that all matters which cause distress and pain should be truly lived through, and this will hasten the fulfillment of our sages' saying in such cases: 'Gam Zu Letovah' ('This too is for good'), meaning that this itself is transformed into good. It is well known that there is an added dimension in 'Gam Zu Letovah' compared to 'Kol Ma D'avid Rachmana L'tav Avid' ('All that the Merciful One does is for good'), and in the outcomes from all the above (as is also clear from stories about this found in our sages).
