Shalom u'Vrachah!
It has again been a long time since I have received any letters or news from you. Among chassidim, even in previous generations, it became customary that when all is well one does not write. Even though our master the Alter Rebbe already complained about this, apparently from the practice of later generations his complaint did not fully take effect and the custom still stands.
In truth, I also wanted to interpret your silence regarding me according to this custom. Nevertheless, since it is possible to clarify matters, we do not rely on assumptions. Therefore, please write both about yourself and your husband may he live, as well as your mother the Rebbetzin may she live. May it be G‑d's will that you will only report good news in your letters.
Since in your last letter you wrote that you might send what you wrote that was published, please fulfill this as well. Although generally in what is published for the public a person is not revealed so much—at least less than in a letter—still, for completeness of one's portrait every detail helps.
I am enclosing a copy of a letter I wrote in connection with the day of redemption Yud-Tes Kislev last year; its content serves as an answer to part of your letter to me.
Warm regards to your mother the Rebbetzin and to your husband may they live. Awaiting good news.
Summary
The Rebbe encourages maintaining personal connection through letters even when all seems well and reminds us that sharing both private and public aspects enriches relationships and understanding among chassidim.
