I received your letters from the 17th and 22nd of Menachem Av in due time, and I am sure you have good news regarding your personal matters.

Regarding the visit of Mr. ... here: as I have written previously, this is not just a matter of sowing with a word; afterward one must strive to bring it to fruition, each according to his situation. The beginning of this effort is to ask him what he heard, etc., thereby giving him an opportunity to share what is on his heart, and the questioner can then fulfill and draw him closer in practice.

What you wrote about Reb A. Shtern shochet u'bodek publishing soon a book of stories about tzaddikim: he should be encouraged to note in the footnotes or at the end of the book from whom he heard each story, whether that person is reliable, and to what extent, etc.

Regarding Rabbi ...: he should be encouraged—both regarding his influence on his son who traveled to Eretz HaKodesh (may it be rebuilt and established), as well as concerning the mikveh in our camp. In both matters he spoke with coolness; his explanation was like the saying of the beraita: "We have no one to rely on except our Father in Heaven." It is known that my father-in-law the Rebbe said that this beraita brings this statement in connection with all matters related to the birth pangs of Mashiach—when prices will soar, etc.

Thank you for what you wrote about the yeshiva students. Surely you know what is happening with them, especially during Elul and Tishrei. Surely it will also be heard in their yeshiva that my suggestion here was that yeshiva students (and R. Y., though not necessarily the administration) should increase their study of avodah-oriented maamarim especially during these days; how good it would be if they did so also in Montreal and other places.

Certainly you are allowed to justify yourself regarding what you wrote about these matters—it is very appropriate; may it be more frequent and more detailed.
