Shalom u'Vrachah!

You write about the undesirable events that occurred in the past and conclude with a question about how to deal with those who can be brought back to the right path, and how to prevent future wrongdoing. First of all, as our Sages say: "What should a son do so as not to sin?" Since learning is mixed (even when it concerns secular or holy studies), this mixture continues afterward; even during study it is like "fire in flax," as our Sages, who understood human nature, ruled. When one wants to eliminate possible negative outcomes, one must remove the cause and source. Remedies that heal or change the outcome only work temporarily, and even then, it is uncertain.

Since even temporary healing is still something (especially if one uses that time properly), and although each person has unique individual traits—the common denominator for all is that there is no more effective influence than being a living example for those whom one wishes to inspire or bring back to good conduct. Another shared point: fulfilling mitzvos as much as possible—if a little light dispels much darkness, how much more so does much light.

Another point: the success of influencing others depends on doing so pleasantly, but at the same time with appropriate firmness—especially regarding the phenomenon you describe which, if not eliminated, becomes a source of all corruption and evil, G‑d forbid. Along with this, every Jew is a child of Hashem our G‑d; therefore, everyone is commanded to do whatever they can to set others on the good and upright path—to live daily life according to our Torah's guidance, Torah of Life, and fulfillment of its mitzvos about which it says "and you shall live by them." We are assured that words coming from the heart enter the listener's heart and have their effect.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that true influence comes from personal example and heartfelt words. Addressing root causes rather than symptoms leads to lasting change; acting with both kindness and firmness helps guide others toward Torah values.
