Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 19th of Menachem Av, in which you ask for advice regarding your lack of consistency: you decide to act in a certain way, but it does not last long and you change your conduct, which confuses both others and yourself.
Generally, such frequent changes come because people make resolutions that are not appropriate for their current situation—that is, they wish to leap ahead when the normal order is "me'at me'at agarsheinu" (little by little I will drive them out), to ascend in holiness step by step. [Except in rare cases where the order is to leap and jump—even to the opposite extreme in a single moment—but this is not the regular order of "the continual offerings according to their order."].
Another practical piece of advice: your agreement and resolution will be lasting if you connect (m'farbindt zich) with a friend or study partner. This creates discomfort if you do not keep your resolution since it causes unpleasantness for the other person—and this is clear.
It is also understood that the yetzer (evil inclination) tries to confuse even in this work and conduct. On the contrary, this itself should add strength in the battle against the yetzer. It is well known that reflecting on how much effort the yetzer puts into tempting a person—since this is its purpose of creation—means that a person should exert himself many times more to fulfill his own purpose of creation, as our Sages say: "I was created to serve my Maker." We have been assured: if a person sanctifies himself a little from below, he is sanctified greatly from Above.
Blessings for good news.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that lasting change comes through gradual progress and accountability with others. Even when challenged by inner resistance, one should persist step by step—knowing that every small effort draws great help from Above.
