Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from Monday. At an auspicious time you and your friend will be mentioned at the holy resting place of the Rebbe Rayatz of righteous memory according to the content of your writing. And I am very hopeful that you have a set study in Chassidus every day with an addition on Shabbos. Of course this also refers to the study of Nigleh. May it be G‑d's will that all this should be in accordance with the teaching of our Sages: study that leads to action. Also, you surely keep the three known daily lessons in Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya!
Blessings for good news in all the above.
In the name of the Rebbe shlita. Secretary
P.S. It would be appropriate to check your tefillin and also that every weekday before davening in the morning you give a few cents to tzedakah.
a) In response to your question about sometimes feeling an awakening toward Judaism without preparation—where does this come from and is there any concern? As explained by the Baal Shem Tov of blessed memory, this comes from the heavenly voice that goes out each day etc., and as explained elsewhere; for this inspiration to endure it must immediately be connected with action on one's part, as also explained elsewhere.
b) How to discern proper conduct—the way to discern is as explained in Hayom Yom for 23 Sivan.
c) Regarding conduct in prayer—the known instruction is: if it concerns kavannah (intent), which is central in prayer—begin with the congregation and afterward one may extend one's prayer so it is with intent.
d) To your question regarding caution in a matter—generally one should conduct oneself as explained by Rambam in Hilchos Deos chapter 1.
Regarding conduct in prayer: see also above vol. 18 letter 5683 and those referenced there; below letter 7696.
Summary
This letter emphasizes daily Chassidus study, careful mitzvah observance such as tefillin checking and giving tzedakah before prayer, and provides practical guidance for spiritual inspiration and personal discipline rooted in Torah sources.
