Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter with its enclosures.
It is well known in Chassidus the interpretation and precision in the saying of our Sages: "If a person intended to perform a mitzvah but was prevented and did not do it, Scripture considers it as if he had done it" (Berachos 6a). In such a case, there is even an advantage, because when one actually performs a mitzvah, sometimes ulterior motives or other factors can mix in; but when Scripture considers it as if he did it, the act is attributed by Scripture with complete and ultimate perfection. This is clear.
And may the merit of tzedakah stand by you and your wife for the fulfillment of your heart's desires in all matters about which you write.
With blessings for good news,
M. Schneersohn
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that sincere intent to do a mitzvah carries great spiritual weight—even if circumstances prevent its fulfillment—and sometimes achieves an even higher level than actual performance. The merit of tzedakah brings blessings for all heartfelt requests.
