Shalom u'Vrachah!

It has been a very long time since I have received any letters or news from you. May it be G‑d's will that this is a good sign that everything is in order and complete, and may it be so as well regarding the matter about which I am writing below, namely:

A very strange report has reached me, but since its source is from people who are valid witnesses—more than two—I am obligated to clarify the matter and take action accordingly. The content of the report is that whenever someone gives a public shiur on any topic in Nigleh or Chassidus, you publicly interject specifically with questions, contradictions, 'Raminhu', inconsistencies, etc., etc. This has not happened just once or twice by chance but has become a regular pattern.

If this report is, G‑d forbid, true, it is understandable why this is astonishing and causes pain. For this is an explicit halachah in Torah regarding the great caution required not to embarrass one's fellow publicly in matters of Torah. This is even more emphasized according to the teachings of Chassidus regarding Ahavas Yisrael—that all are aligned and have one Father—beginning from Tanya Kadisha through 'VeHeichaltzu' (regarding G‑d's vengeance against Midian), etc.

One could attempt to justify (though it is a very weak justification) that your intention is to clarify Torah law truthfully and that you cannot tolerate any distortion in any detail whatsoever. But even so, it remains unclear why this must be done specifically in public (where it appears as if those gathered are evaluating who among them knows more or is more expert). If it were done privately—where only Hashem would know and assess this merit found in raising a question—it would be different.

If I merit it, my words here will have an effect so that even those who previously disrupted as described above for whatever reasons will henceforth assist doubly—as explained in Iggeres HaTeshuvah by Rabbeinu HaZaken at the end of chapter 9: If one was accustomed to reading one page, he should now read two pages, etc.

With blessings for truly good news in all the above,
In the name of the Rebbe Shlita,
A. Kuint
Secretary

Summary

This letter teaches that correcting others should be done with sensitivity and privacy to avoid embarrassment. Upholding Ahavas Yisrael takes precedence over displaying knowledge publicly; true growth comes from helping others with respect and humility.
