במענה למכתבו מב' מ"ח, בו כותב אודות החובות שנצטברו במשך השנים האחרונות, ולכאורה אינו רואה לע"ע אופן איך לסלקם, ולכן עלה בדעתם, אולי כדאי לנסוע לחו"ל למשך איזה שנים ולהשתכר שם באופן שלא רק יכסה ההוצאה השוטפת אלא גם יספיק לסלק החובות.
והנה מובן שלכל לראש יתוספו הוצאות הנסיעה הלוך ושוב אשר לא מועטות המה, נוסף על מה שבכלל העתקה ממקום למקום קשורה עם הוצאות מיוחדות, כן מובן שאין ודאות מוחלטת שבמדינה שיבוא ישתכר באופן המתאים לכסות כל ההוצאות והחובות, שהרי אין בידם של המבטיחים להבטיח אלא במשך שנה ושנתים, וגם זה באם לא ישתנו התנאים ביותר ועוד ספיקות בזה, ונוסף על כל הנ"ל באים ג"כ הקישוים בהסתגלות במקום החדש ובפרט בהנוגע לילדים קטנים, דמכל הלין טעמי לא נראית לי סברא האמורה, ועליו להתענין על אתר בענין של פרנסה נוסף על משרתו הקבועה וכמו שראה חסדי השי"ת בנוגע לשידוך, ילדים, דירה וכו' (ובטח זוכר שגם בזה הי' מיואש ח"ו), תקותי שגם בזה יהי' בעתיד יותר טוב מאשר משער, ובלבד שיוסיף התענינות ואליבא דנפשי', בהצנור וכלי בהמצטרך לו ולב"ב שיחיו...
בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור והכל הולך אחר החיתום, יעשה את שלו להרבות אומץ בעבודתו בקדש וכמסובב מהסיבה יבשר טוב גם בעניניו הפרטים.

In response to your letter from the 2nd of Marcheshvan, in which you write about the debts that have accumulated over recent years, and you seemingly do not currently see a way to pay them off. Therefore, you are considering whether it might be worthwhile to travel abroad for a few years and earn enough there not only to cover ongoing expenses but also to pay off the debts.
It is clear that first of all, travel expenses for going and returning will be added, which are not insignificant. Additionally, moving from place to place always involves special expenses. It is also clear there is no absolute certainty that in the country you would go to you would earn enough to cover all expenses and debts; those who promise can only guarantee for a year or two at most—and even then only if conditions do not change significantly—plus there are other doubts about this. Furthermore, there are also difficulties adapting to a new place, especially regarding small children. For all these reasons I do not see this idea as advisable. You should instead look locally for an additional source of livelihood alongside your regular job. Just as you have seen G‑d's kindness regarding marriage matches, children, housing, etc.—and surely you recall that even then you had despaired G‑d forbid—I hope that here too things will turn out better than you expect in the future, provided you increase your efforts personally through proper channels and means for yourself and your family.
Blessings for good news in all the above matters; everything follows after one's own efforts. Do your part by increasing strength in your holy work and as a result of this cause may you report good news also in your personal affairs.
