במענה למכתבו מיום הרביעי, בו כותב אודות חוות דעת הרופא בהנוגע למצב עינו שמאלית, ושואל דעתי בזה.
והנה כבר ידועה הוראת תורתנו תורת חיים שהיא הנותנת רשות שבענין זה תוכנו גם כן כח לרופא לרפאות, ובנתוח כאותו שכותב מובן ג"כ שצריך להעשות ע"י רופא הכי מומחה, שבטח יש לו נסיון (פראקטיקע) יותר בזה, שהנסיון בזה נוגע יותר מאשר החכמה, ויהי רצון שהרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות ירפאהו ע"י איש פלוני וטפול פלוני בעת ובשעה טובה ומוצלחת.
ומובן שכיון שעניני גוף האדם תלוים בעניני נשמת האדם ועניני האיש הישראלי תלוים בתורה, ובמילא כל מה שברא הקב"ה בגוף נמצא דוגמתו ומקורו בנשמה, וכל מה שישנו באיש הישראלי נמצא הוא בתורה, מזה מובן שכשצריכים תיקון בגוף צ"ל תיקון בענין המתאים דהנשמה, וכשצריכים תקון ושיפור בענין של איש הישראלי צריכים תקון ושיפור בענין המתאים בתורה, וכמרז"ל חש בראשו יעסוק בתורה חש בכל גופו יעסוק בתורה וכו', ובנ"ד מוכרח שיחליט להוסיף מכאן ולהבא בלימוד חלק התורה הנקרא מאור שבתורה זוהי פנימית התורה (שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות), ועי"ז תתוסף ההצלחה במאור עניני הנשמה ובמאור עניני הגוף, וק"ל ע"פ כל הנ"ל.

In response to your letter from Wednesday, in which you write about the doctor's opinion regarding the condition of your left eye and ask my advice on this matter. It is already well known that our Torah, the Torah of Life, grants permission and also empowers a doctor to heal in such cases. In a surgery like the one you describe, it is understood that it should be performed by the most expert doctor available, who certainly has more experience (practical knowledge) in this area—since experience here is even more crucial than wisdom. May it be G‑d's will that the Healer of all flesh Who works wonders will heal you through a particular person and treatment at a good and auspicious time.
It is understood that since matters of the human body depend on matters of the soul, and matters concerning a Jewish person depend on Torah—and therefore everything that G‑d created in the body has its counterpart and source in the soul, and everything found in a Jew is found in Torah—it follows that when bodily repair is needed, there must also be repair in the corresponding aspect of the soul; and when improvement is needed for a Jewish person, there must be improvement in the corresponding aspect of Torah. As our Sages say: "If one has pain in his head—let him engage in Torah; if he has pain throughout his body—let him engage in Torah," etc. In this case, it is essential to resolve from now on to increase your study of that part of Torah called "the light within Torah," which is the inner dimension of Torah (in our generation revealed as Chassidus). Through this, success will increase both in matters of the soul's light and the body's light. This suffices based on all the above.
