מאשר הנני קבלת שני מכתביו ואתחיל במאי דסליק בשאלתו בהנוגע למצבו הרוחני - כמדומה כבר כתבתי ולא פעם אשר צריך להשתדל במרץ מתאים להחשיבות בענין שידוך, ומובן שצריכה להיות קביעות עתים בלימוד בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות, ובמצבו לדעתי גם בכמות צ"ל הלימוד בתורת החסידות יתר על הלימוד בנגלה ופשיטא שזהו נוסף על שלשת השיעורים בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים השוים לכל נפש ובפרט להשייכים לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ולחב"ד בכלל...
כנראה מהידיעות שקבלתי במשך השבועות האחרונים לא ניצלו התזוזה במצב הרוחני והתעוררות נקודת הלב של כמה מבני ישראל לקרבם יותר לתורה ומצותי' בפועל, ומבהיל המצב שכו"כ הזדמנויות היו במשך שנים האחרונות ואין החרדים לדבר ה' מנצלים אותם ולא רק שאין מנצלים אותם במילואם אלא שאפילו קרוב לזה ג"כ לא, ולצערי הכי גדול גם מצעירי אגו"ח אנ"ש וחב"ד וביותר הצעירים שצריכים להיות בעלי מרץ ובעלי פועל כדבעי למעבד לא עבדי כלל וכלל. ואף שאין הזמן להזכיר ענינים של היפך ח"ו דזכות, פשוט שלא לזה כוונתי בשורותי דלמעלה כי אם שמחפש הנני מסילות ונתיבות אפשר סו"ס יתחילו בניצול המצב גם מצד ימין ולא תהי' תורה שלימה שלנו כו' שהרי מצד שמאל מנצלים כל ענין למטרם הם, וקשה להאריך בדבר המבהיל, ויה"ר שסו"ס אתבשר טובות בתוכן הנ"ל.

I acknowledge receipt of your two letters and will begin with what you concluded regarding your spiritual state. It seems I have already written more than once that one must strive with energy appropriate to the importance of the matter of a shidduch (match). Of course, there must be fixed times for study in both Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus. In your situation, in my opinion, the quantity of study in Chassidus should exceed that of Nigleh. And obviously this is in addition to the three well-known daily lessons in Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya which are equal for everyone—especially those connected to the Previous Rebbe and to Chabad in general.
From information I have received over recent weeks, it appears that the movement in spiritual matters and the awakening of the heart among several Jews has not been utilized to draw them closer to Torah and mitzvos in practice. The situation is alarming: so many opportunities have arisen over recent years, yet those who are careful about G‑d's word are not taking advantage—not only are they not fully utilizing them, but not even close to it. To my great regret, this includes even some of the young members of Agudas Chassidei Chabad—especially the youth who should be energetic and active as is proper—yet they are not acting at all.
Although this is not the time to mention matters contrary G‑d forbid to merit, it is clear that this is not my intention above; rather I am searching for ways and paths so that perhaps finally they will begin to utilize these situations from the positive side as well—and our Torah will not be incomplete while on the other side every opportunity is used for their purposes. It is difficult to elaborate on this alarming matter. May it be G‑d's will that I will finally hear good news regarding all of the above.
