בנועם קבלתי ברכתו לקראת השנה הבע"ל, וכל המתברך יתברך בברכתו של הקב"ה שתוספתו מרובה על העיקר...
ואף שידוע פתגם רבנו הזקן, מיט אן עצה שלאגט מען זיך ניט אן, אבל בראותי המצב הרוחני של הצעירים בארצוה"ב והמפנה אשר חל בשנים האחרונות ממש, שבקל יותר לפעול מאשר לפנים, ויש מקום לפעולות גדולות יותר, מובן אשר כל אחד שיכול לפעול בכיוון זה ועאכו"כ זה שכבר פעל וראה פירות בעמלו, צריך הוא לגייס את עצמו לעבודה קדושה זו.
ואף אשר ככל הענינים שבקדושה ישנם כמה העלמות והסתרים, ואחד מהם תחבולות היצר לפתות את האדם הפועל, שאין תועלת בפעולתו, וחבל על הזמן והמרץ שיכול לנצלם בענינים אחרים ובפרט בענינים דקדושה.
וידוע הפתגם בזה מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בשם כ"ק אדמו"ר אביו
מוהרש"ב - זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר כל ענין וטענה המביא חלישות בפעולות האדם לתורה ומצותי' אפילו אם מראיהם החיצוני קדש הוא, מקורם מהלעומת זה, כי בהיותו אומן באומנתו, לפעמים מתחפש ובא לאדם באדרת משי - זיידענע זופיצע - וק"ל.
תקותי אשר כת"ר לא יקפיד על שורותי האמורות, אשר כנ"ל מיט אן עצה שלאגט מען זיך ניט אן, אבל כיון שרואה אני בזה טובתם של כמה וכמה מחברי ישראל הצעיר ומשפחותיהם, שבמילא פשוט בעיני שזהו גם טובתו של כת"ר ומשפחתו, מצאתי לחובה להגיד את האמור, ואתו הסליחה.
ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.

I was pleased to receive your blessing for the upcoming year, and as is known, anyone who blesses is blessed by the Holy One, blessed be He, whose addition far surpasses the original blessing...
Although it is known the saying of Rabbeinu HaZaken that "one does not argue with advice," seeing the current spiritual state of youth in the United States and the recent shift—where it is now easier to influence than before and there is room for greater activities—it is clear that anyone able to act in this direction, especially one who has already acted and seen fruits from his labor, must enlist himself in this holy work.
And although, as with all matters of holiness, there are many concealments and obstacles—one of which is the strategies of the yetzer hara to entice a person into thinking his efforts are fruitless and that his time and energy would be better spent elsewhere, especially on other holy matters—it is well known what my father-in-law, the Rebbe, said in the name of his father, the Rebbe Maharash (may his merit protect us): Any idea or claim that weakens a person's efforts in Torah and mitzvot—even if it outwardly appears holy—originates from the side of impurity. For being skilled in his craft, sometimes he disguises himself in a silk coat (zeidene zupitze)—and this should be understood well.
I hope you will not take offense at my words above—for as mentioned "one does not argue with advice." But since I see this as benefiting many young Jews and their families—and therefore it is obvious to me that it also benefits you and your family—I felt obligated to say what I have said; please forgive me.
As we approach the new year coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I hereby express my blessing to you and all yours: may you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year materially and spiritually.
With honor and blessings for success in all of the above.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that discouraging thoughts about one's spiritual impact are tactics of the yetzer hara—even when they seem noble. One must persist in holy work among youth with confidence that every effort bears fruit for oneself and others.
