... בודאי לדכוותי' אך למותר לעורר שאם בכל הזמנים תפקידו של בית הספר החרדי הי' ללמד את ה[מ]חונכים תורתנו הקדושה, נוסף בתקופתנו התפקיד שצריך הוא לחנכם בעניני יהדות בכלל וקיום המצות ואפילו ידיעות הכי פשוטות, במלות אחרות לעשות מציאות של ילד ישראלי בן אברהם יצחק ויעקב, ומובן ופשוט שזהו עיקרי עוד יותר מאשר ידיעת התורה אפילו את"ל שיש להפריד ביניהם.
שלכן, וכמו שהארכתי במקום אחר, מוכרח שבכל תכנית לימודים איזה שתהי', מכתה הכי נמוכה עד לכתה הכי גדולה וגבוה, יוקדש חלק חשוב ללימוד עיקרי היהדות וידיעת הלכות הצריכות בחיי יום יומים מנהגי ישראל וכו', והרי ידוע פס"ד חז"ל, גדולה שמושה של תורה יותר מלימודה.
בטח ישנה תכנית כללית שעמה מתחשבים, אבל בודאי די מקום לכל מנהל ביה"ס שלו להכניס הלימוד והחינוך האמור במדה חשובה, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצון המנהל, ובערך גודל הענין וחשיבותו היסודית כל יגיעה בזה כדאית, וזכות הרבים תשב"ר מסייעתו.

... Certainly for your honor, but it is worthwhile to emphasize that if at all times the role of the religious school was to teach our holy Torah to its students, in our era an additional responsibility has been added: to educate them in matters of Judaism in general and the observance of mitzvos—even the most basic knowledge. In other words, to create a true identity of a Jewish child, a son of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov. It is clear and obvious that this is even more fundamental than Torah knowledge itself—even if one were to argue that they could be separated.
Therefore, as I have elaborated elsewhere, it is essential that in every curriculum—whatever it may be—from the lowest class to the highest and most advanced class—a significant portion should be dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of Judaism and knowledge of practical halachos needed for daily life, Jewish customs, etc. As our Sages ruled: "Serving Torah scholars is greater than studying [Torah] itself." Surely there is a general program that is taken into account, but certainly there is ample room for each school principal to incorporate this learning and education in an important measure. The matter depends only on the principal's will; given the fundamental importance of this issue, every effort invested here is worthwhile. The merit of many children will assist him.
