במענה על מכתבו, בו כותב אשר בעת היותו בביתו מצבו ביראת שמים טוב יותר מאשר בהיותו בישיבת אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש אשר ב... אף ששוקד בלימוד התורה בכלל ובלימוד תורת החסידות ביחוד, ושואל מה עליו לעשות.
הנה פשוט ומובן אשר סברא האמורה הוא עצת היצר שרוצה למנוע אותו מלהיות באהלה של תורה ובאהלה של תפלה, שהרי הם דוקא לא בבית כידוע דבר משנה, שהתורה נקנית בדבוק חברים והוי גולה למקום תורה, ועל דרך זה הוא בנוגע לתפלה, ובפרט בנוגע ללימוד החסידות, ויגביר אומץ וירגיז על יצר הרע כמבואר בתניא, והשי"ת יצליחו.
מהנכון הי' לבדוק את התפילין שלו, וכן שילבש טלית קטן שציציותיו בדוקות.

In response to your letter, in which you write that when you are at home your state of awe of Heaven is better than when you are at the Oholei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch Yeshiva in ..., even though you diligently study Torah in general and Chassidus in particular, and you ask what you should do.
It is clear and understood that this reasoning is the advice of the yetzer hara, which wants to prevent you from being in the tents of Torah and prayer, for these are specifically not found at home as is known from the Mishnah: Torah is acquired through bonding with friends and by exiling oneself to a place of Torah. The same applies to prayer, especially regarding the study of Chassidus. Strengthen your resolve and battle your yetzer hara as explained in Tanya, and may Hashem grant you success.
It would be proper to have your tefillin checked, and also to wear a tallis katan whose tzitzis have been checked.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that feelings of greater spiritual strength at home are often misleading; true growth comes from remaining in yeshiva among friends dedicated to Torah and Chassidus. Strengthening one's resolve against inner resistance brings blessing and success.
