Regarding your question about why it happens that someone has spoken negatively about you—generally speaking, "Bahdei Kavshei Rachmana Lamah Lach" (Why involve yourself in the hidden ways of the Merciful One?), and a Jew should see to increase in Torah and mitzvos and in influencing another in this area. Even a little light pushes away much darkness; how much more so does a great amount of light ultimately drive away all darkness and matters of darkness, both spiritually and materially. May Hashem grant you success to share good news regarding the above.
