To the administration of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim and the administration of the vocational school — may G‑d be upon them for life. Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letters from the 20th of Shevat (two letters) and the 21st of Shevat with their enclosures. The map of the village area was also received.
a) Regarding the location of the yeshiva buildings, I have already written that they should be as far as possible from the vocational schools. However, it is also understood that it is impossible to place them in a location where there is concern about flooding. As is my approach in other matters, the buildings and grounds should be planned so that there will be room for further expansion later on.
b) Regarding shadarim (fundraisers), I have also already answered that it is up to the administration to choose them according to their talents and matters...
c) Concerning what you wrote about the demand to bring a radio, phonograph, etc., into the vocational school: It is clear that if these things are demanded or insisted upon, they are unacceptable — even if one would say that in themselves there is not such great concern. On the other hand, since it is necessary to try to have as many suitable students as possible, and this demand may stem from a lack of engaging activities for students during their free time from studies, every effort should be made to fill this free time with matters of holiness — but also those that interest their animal soul — thus weakening this demand.
I must restrain myself but cannot help expressing my wonder at your doubt: If these things are permitted in an agricultural school, why would they be forbidden in a carpentry school — and therefore also in Tomchei Temimim Lod? And if you were interested in organizing talks and gatherings with students according to their knowledge and talents, surely this question would disappear on its own.
d) Regarding what you wrote in your letter of 21 Shevat about the rumor: It is obvious that those among Anash who submitted demands or conditional orders — for permission to leave or similar things — must immediately cancel these demands and conditional orders. Although it is appropriate to try amicably and pleasantly regarding this matter, it should not be done in ways contrary to sound reason as mentioned above. Therefore, efforts should also be made so that this rumor will prove false. The attribute of kindness and closeness will nullify — as stated in Tikunei Zohar — the judgment which is severity etc. It is also astonishing that such simple matters require awakening from across the sea.
Regarding students for the agricultural school — I have already written that one must add as much as possible; especially since inevitably some who are accepted will leave due to difficulty adjusting to its order, as happens regularly in every institution.
With blessings for success and good news.
