נעם לי לקבל מכתבו שהתחיל לכתוב ביום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, החג אשר פדה בשלום נפשנו ואור וחיות נפשנו ניתן לנו (לשון כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, באגרת הקודש שלו הידועה), ושמחתי לקרות בו אשר ראה האור כי טוב והתחיל להביא בפועל החלטתו לקבוע עתים בתורת דברי אלקים חיים היא תורת החסידות, ובודאי כמאמר רז"ל לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה, הכוונה בזה גם להדרכותי' ומנהגי', כי גם על חלק תורה זה באה ההודעה, גדול תלמוד שמביא לידי מעשה, ויה"ר שחפץ ד' בידו יצליח ללמוד ולקיים מתוך הרחבת הדעת ולייגע בה, ותקויים הבטחת רז"ל יגעת ומצאת.
ובמה שכותב אודות סדר הלימוד שהתחיל בפרקים הראשונים של ספר תניא קדישא, מהנכון הי' שילמוד חלק השלישי אשר בספר התניא, היינו אגרת התשובה, אחר כך חלק השני, שער היחוד והאמונה, ואחרי זה חלק הראשון, ובבת אחת עם זה מאמרים בספר דרך מצותיך לכ"ק אדמו"ר הצמח צדק, באלו שלבו חפץ, כי הרי אין דיעותיהם שוות, ויש מי שחוש לו בהרחבה, ויש מי שדוקא בהעמקה, אשר ברובא דרובא דורשת צמצום וכיוון לענין מיוחד וכו', ומה טוב הי' שילמוד את זה בחברותא עכ"פ עם עוד אחד, ואם אין נמצא במחיצתו מי שיבין הלימוד כמותו, יהי' עכ"פ מי שלמטה הימנו, והרי נאמר ומתלמידי יותר מכולם.
בברכת הצלחה בכל האמור לעיל ולבשו"ט בהנוגע לעצמו לב"ב ולמושפעיו במחנו הט'.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to receive your letter, which you began writing on the bright day of Yud-Tes Kislev, the festival that redeemed our soul in peace and gave us light and vitality for our soul (in the words of my revered teacher, Admor Maharashab, of blessed memory, in his well-known holy letter). I was happy to read that you have seen that the light is good and have begun to put into practice your decision to set times for studying the words of Elokim Chayim — namely, the teachings of Chasidus. Certainly, as our Sages say: "Not study is the main thing but action," this also applies to its guidance and customs. For even regarding this part of Torah it is stated: "Great is study that leads to action." May it be G‑d's will that your desire will succeed — to learn and fulfill with broad-mindedness and diligence — and may you merit the assurance of our Sages: "You have labored and you found."
Regarding what you write about your study schedule — that you began with the first chapters of Sefer Tanya Kadisha — it would be proper for you to learn first the third part of Tanya (Igeres HaTeshuvah), then the second part (Shaar HaYichud VeHaEmunah), and after that the first part. At the same time, you should also learn maamarim from Sefer Derech Mitzvosecha by Admor tzt"z — those that your heart desires. For not all minds are alike; some prefer breadth, others depth — which in most cases requires focus on a specific topic, etc. It would be best if you could learn this with a chavrusa (study partner), at least with one other person. If there is no one in your vicinity who understands as you do, then at least someone on a lower level; as it is said: "From my students I have learned more than from all."

P.S. Enclosed is my letter to a member of his synagogue about whom you wrote in your letter. Surely if he needs an explanation, you will find suitable words to explain what I wrote in my letter. Thank you very much for your effort. As requested, I am sending this letter promptly.
