Ignoring Discord, Increasing Enrollment, and Supervising Meals

This letter advises that discord stirred up by someone is best overcome by paying it no attention, so that in the end "as water reflects a face" his heart turns too; peace is the vessel for blessing. It urges increasing the number of students rather than cutting hours, and teachers supervising the children at meals.

Greetings and blessing!

...As for what you write about the discord between hearts caused by a certain person, one sees tangibly that in such cases one succeeds when one pays no attention to it, that is, one acts as if one does not see. Through this, in the end, כמים הפנים לפנים, "As water reflects face to face [so does the heart of man to man]" (Mishlei 27:19), is fulfilled; and may it be His will that this come about soon. As peace increases, G‑d's blessing and His success will increase too, as the Mishnah rules: לא מצא הקב"ה כלי מחזיק ברכה אלא השלום, "The Holy One, blessed be He, found no vessel that holds blessing but peace" (Uktzin 3:12).

It is understood and obvious that one must endeavor to increase the number of students, and not to reduce the hours.

What you write, that the teachers, men and women, should supervise the boys and girls during meals, is right and indeed very necessary, since in a number of Jewish customs, and also laws, conduct during eating matters, in addition to the laws of proper manners.

With blessing for outstanding success in enlarging your borders with good students, boys and girls, and in seeing good fruit of your labor, in health and in success in your personal affairs.
