מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מא"ח[2], ונהניתי לקרות בו אשר דרש לפני העולם בעניני יהדות. ופשיטא שאין זה מספיק מה שדורש לפניהם אחת בשנה, וכידוע דהעבודה של אחת בשנה דזמן דקדש הקדשים הוא יום הכפורים בקדש הקדשים במקום כפשוטו ע"י כהן גדול שנקרא קדש קדשים (דה"י א' כג, יג[3]) - עש"ן[4] - מועילה כשיש לזה הכנות במשך השנה נוסף על הכנה דיוהכ"פ עצמו.
ואף שמבואר שכאו"א מישראל מצד נשמתו שהיא חלק אלקה ממעל ממש למעלה מהזמן והמקום יכול לפעול בכל מקום ובכל זמן ובכל רגע ע"ד פעולת כהן גדול ביוהכ"פ בקדש הקדשים ע"י הזזה כדבעי בשינוי המהות, הנה מובן ופשוט שאין זה פוטר ח"ו כלל בעבודה במשך כל השנה וכלשון הזהר כל יומא ויומא עביד עבידתי' (זח"ג צד, ב) וחסר יומא חדא חסר לבושא חדא (זח"א רכד, א). ובמכש"כ וק"ו בהנוגע לפעולה על אחרים, שלא תמיד נמצאים אצלו, ולא תמיד מוכנים לקבל ההשפעה, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב גם בזה.

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the Eve of the Festival, and I enjoyed reading that you delivered a sermon to the public on matters of Judaism.
It is obvious that delivering such talks only once a year is not sufficient. As is known, the service performed once a year in the Holy of Holies—on Yom Kippur in the Holy of Holies in its literal sense by the Kohen Gadol, who is called "Holy of Holies" (Divrei HaYamim I 23:13)—is effective only when there are preparations throughout the year in addition to the preparation for Yom Kippur itself.
Even though it is explained that every Jew, by virtue of his soul being an actual part of G‑d above—beyond time and place—can accomplish anywhere, anytime, and at any moment something similar to what the Kohen Gadol achieves on Yom Kippur in the Holy of Holies through proper transformation, it is clear and obvious that this does not exempt one at all from ongoing service throughout the entire year. As the Zohar says: "Each and every day he performs his service; if one day is missing, one garment is missing." (Zohar III 94b; Zohar I 224a).
All the more so regarding influencing others—who are not always present with him and not always ready to receive his influence—the Holy One, blessed be He, should grant you success to bring good news in this as well.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while special moments like Yom Kippur are powerful, true spiritual growth requires consistent effort and preparation throughout the entire year. This applies even more when striving to positively impact others.
